Mani's Influence & Musicology...

With Mani being a former fan and subscriber to alt.music.prince, do you think that the Musicology album is so good because Mani may have issued a little "quality control"?

Imagine any fan of the classic stuff being able to advise Prince what the fans want to hear... If it were me or you and Prince played us 50 songs and asked us to whittle it down to 10 or 12, would you ignore him and leave him to get on with it?

I would bet any money that Prince runs stuff past Mani for a cursory listen before releasing stuff to the public. It would explain a lot.

This isn't a bad theory. This is my favorite P album is years, so Mani can stay. Just kidding, I really like her, whether she green/red lights songs or not. Finally, a pro-Mani thread...

Good finally a non-hatin' Mani thread. I bet he runs things by her,she didn't get 2 work @ P-Park 4 nuthin'. She obvisiously musta done things(professionally) 2 get where she's @ now. Both business-wise & marriage-wise I bet it's 50/50. In the past 4 Prince it seem 90/20 @ the least. Yea it's all good between them 2.

Well, if Mani is going to get credit for the good parts of Prince's career, then she should also get credit for the not-so-good parts. Such as Prince abandoning Paisley Park and letting it fall apart while he spends mondo-millions renovating Mani's house in Toronto...

And no soundchecks or aftershows.

And lowering the price of the club to $25 for a "lifetime" membership.

You ain't kidding about Paisley Park falling apart...when I visited the Park for the first time last summer, I was shocked to see all of the dead trees. I was shocked to see the ghetto fence for the parking lot, that someone has to actually manually open. I was shocked to see part of the floor came unglued in the L4OA room and apparently nobody thought it was worth fixing.

But yeah, I actually do think that Mani is somewhat responsible for Prince finally releasing an album that's not just for himself.

Well, Prince has already bulldozed his purple house in Chanhassen. I wonder if he's planning to just dump Paisley Park?

He still has another mansion in Chanhassen, then he has Paisley Park, plus some smaller properties in that area. I think Larry Graham was living in one of Prince's Chanhassen properties.

It just seems so strange to have Prince abandon Paisley Park. It seemed like it was part of him. confused

I think WAS is the operative word in that sentence. I think he's already done with Paisley Park.

patience, Marrk. Patience. Some things take time. See, Mani and I hatched a plot, eons ago, and its execution is underway.

Every night, she tiptoes over to a sleeping Prince, and whispers song titles into his ear. "Reflections" was but the beginning.

"Moonbeam Levels" is coming, too. But, for now, the biggies are being focused on.

Throughout the month of April, Mani will be whispering these words:

"Roadhouse Garden -- WITH all original Revolution parts..."

I'm worried she'll get so overexposed to his music she won't like it any more sad Or maybe she stays out of it unless he insists.

Since Manuela has been on the scene he's put out a piano only album, a live album, quit using taped background vocals during his live shows, played many rare/old cuts, played/acknowledged bootlegged unrleased tracks, become far more accessible (open soundchecks), and finally, offered up downloads of his music.

I don't believe it's a complete coincidence that she's on the scene.

I concur. I think she is somewhat the 'voice of the fan' in his circle. He has certainly done more to please me since she's been around (ONA soundcheck being the best example). But of course he's Prince so I'm sure he still does what ever the hell he wants to do and if he gets it in his bonnet to do something crazy she won't be able to stop him.

She's just one voice in the choir. He probably has at least another dozen just inside his own head!! lol

I really like Prince's work since The Rainbow Children Alot. I like the New Direction with the Music. He has Never looked better or sounded better. Plus he's all over the charts and doing appearances and magazines. So I think it's ALL GOOD!

Uh if Musicology is the result of Mani's influence that might why explain why I think it's terrible.

When it comes to Prince's music, I remember seeing Mayte dancing and laughing at Paisley Park, having a real good time. When Mani took over it seemed so odd that she never danced or even tapped her toe. It amazes me how anyone that close to Prince could not be feeling the funk that makes so many want to dance and rejoice. Oh well, everyone is different i guess. confused

...after some thoughts...I thought Prince didn't let his woman 'mess' with his music, but if he let this one, then it's still all so very good. nod

Frankly, I've been thinking a lot recently about the severe lack of tunes that seem to relate to Mani. I mean Susannah and Mayte were all over Prince' stuff back in the day and seemed to really inspire him. I haven't seen too much that squeaks "Mani" to me despite the length of their marriage. I think at least a couple tracks off Musicology are still about Mayte, in fact.
