Message from Candy Dulfer

This is taken from Aaron's post on Housequake:

http://housequake.com

Gotta love Housequake! Anyway, gotta love Candy too...she sounds like a HELL of a lady. I'm almost as excited about seeing her as I am Prince...I still say throw Eric Leeds in the mix and I would come a thousand times.

Candy said, on her site: http://www.candydulfer.nl/

Dear Fans,

It's been a long time since you heard from me, I know! I guess I just had too much going on to even begin to tell you guys what I was up to.

As some of you might know I've just started on the new Prince tour, which is very exciting. In the past few months I've moved into my new house, recorded a small soundtrack for a documentary and recorded and rehearsed with Prince. A great way to spend the time after my last tour with Funky Stuff in the States, Europe and Japan. That was so much fun and the reactions to it were so great that I can't wait to record a new album and go back on tour again with the band.

But first there's a tour with Prince to do, and what a tour! I was very flattered to be asked again by my musical hero. As I'm writing this I'm sitting in a hotel in Dallas where we've just done a fantastic gig. Dallas is the fourth stop on this tour and I'm starting to feel very much at home on the Musicology stage.

I feel very fortunate to play with Prince in this time of his life where he's just doing so well and where the show is so much about bringing cool music to audiences around the world. Not that Prince was ever about anything else than that, but it just seems that people are finally ready again for it. In a short period we've done some pretty high profile stuff like the induction gig for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen Degeneres show and of course the Grammy's! There I had the chance to meet and perform with Beyonce who's absolutely the bomb! I loved her voice already, but in real life she is even more fantastic. Very musical, and she is as sweet as she looks. Most of the time big artists like her are a little aloof and jaded, but this is really a down to earth, lovely person. She sent chills up my spine singing that bit in 'Purple Rain'.

Until now the reviews and more importantly the audience responses to the Musicology Tour have been wonderful. And we will get better and better because this band is all about music, and the guidance and inspiration we get from Prince is just gonna make us better players. That's actually the main reason I'm doing this gig, in case somebody ever wonders. I get so much inspiration and ideas from this that it can only make me a better and more fun musician.

Of course there was one major setback in the fact that my beloved fellow NPG saxophonist and hero Maceo Parker had to pull out of the tour for a while for medical reasons. But he seems to be doing well and we expect him to come back soon! Lots of love to you, Mace! In the meantime we have a great new player in the horn section called Mike Phillips and he has done an excellent job in learning all those new songs and dance steps.

Of course I miss my boyfriend, my family, my friends and especially my band! It's a long tour, and there aren't many musicians in the world who I'd go all around the world for, but if you play this music it just seems all worth it. Sometimes I forget my cues on stage because I'm just enjoying the gig a little too much, feeling more like a Prince fan than a member of the NPG.

I'm glad to receive so many messages on the site, even if sometimes there's not much news on me as a solo artist! It must mean I have loyal fans and that makes me really happy every day.

Everybody take care! When you're in the US, come see me play with Prince, and otherwise I'll see you soon in Europe and Japan.

Lots of love, Candy
