What ever happened with The Time ? I remember reading on the Unofficial Time site months ago that somebody heard from Morris about a new Time record having already been completed, and that they were awaiting a deal with Hollywood Records for a Spring release.
Well, that Time site hasn't been updated for a long time, and the Hollywood Records site has no trace of any Time activity. You'd think with Prince coming back into the spotlight recently that it would be a good time for his old rivals to pop back up and try to steal the show. Wouldn't you love to have Prince perform on another Late Night/ Talk show, only to have the Time rush in and take over with a jeering battle cry; "Jerkin' everything in sight !" Peace

At a gig last week, Morris took some time out to announce they had JUST signed a deal with Hollywood Records and that a new CD will be released in 2004.

THANK you, Jestyr, that is music to my ears.
I will sleep much easier tonight knowing that The Time is nigh. I really hope we get some "skit" tracks, or otherwise a good amount of foolin' around outside of the song like we did on Pandemonium. This is part of what The Time are all about. Everytime I play one of their albums, it paints a miniature movie in my mind. All I can say is it's time to turn these guys loose on a whole new generation of Graces and Stellas. It's open season!

In the late 90s,there were rumors about a new Time album callled 'Old Dogs,New Tricks'.I'm not sure if this new CD for Hollywood Records will include songs from that abandoned project.

I think you'd really enjoy it. I'd never seen a Time show before, as I first became a Time fan in 2002. I hadn't even the slightest idea they were associated with Prince whatsoever (let alone that he DICTATED them back in the day)
I later found this out and bought my first Prince CD on blind faith (Emancipation) and that's what lead to me becoming a Prince fan. (Sorry, I went off topic...) . Anyway, I got to see the Time last June at a city Harbor Festival (I know they hit up the giant smoked turkey legs, I sure did !) and it was a BLAST to say the least. I was worried that they would be 'over it' or unenthusiastic, but to my delight, they put on a wild show! They were all dressed top-notch. Chance, Monte, and Tori in sensible black or dark green suits with fedoras, Freeze in a neon pink suit, Jerome in green, and Morris in a funky almost prismatic/metallic patterned suit. I must've taken 200 pictures on my digital camera. There was a lot of interaction, too. A lot of the songs flowed into one another, but every now and then they'd stop and talk to the crowd. I was proud of the audience, too ! A lot of hardcore fans were waving vinyls, but was a perfect blend of young, old, black, white- EVERYBODY was into it and having a great time. Morris even brought up how the Harbor Festival we were all celebrating originated ages ago where the ships would come into harbor from Africa, at which point a festival was held and the unwilling passengers became slaves... "But here we are now at this festival hundreds of years later, black and white together, having fun and dancing together- that's progress, let's keep it up !" he said. It was a nice point to make, because we were all having a great time together thanks to the Time. I know I've gone on and on, but it was one of the best times I've had in my life. Don't be shy when Jerome comes into the crowd, either ! I wound up onstage dancing The Bird and getting Morris to autograph my Pandemonium album ! Man, I'm only 20 but my life felt complete at that point. You should definately hit that show up. These boys are back and back to stay ! THAT'S what time it is ! And I hope you have as much fun as I did.

Thanks for the info! Where are they playing? I want to see them, too. They played a casino near me about 5 years ago but I didn't go. Also do Jam & Lewis ever appear with them?

The Time played Boulder Station in Vegas last night the 20th. Don't know hwere or when they'll be showing up next. Jam & Lewis are doing their own much bigger thing now with Flyte Time studio and productions.

Well of course, but that doesn't mean that maybe they wouldn't step out and jam now and again, just for old time's sake. They were in the version of the Time what was on the RAVE DVD, weren't they?

I don't believe so, I think it was the current lineup of Morris, Jerome, Freeze, Chance, Tori, Jellybean, and my new favorite recent solo artist; ( Sorry Dave Gahan, you're threatening the possibility of a new Depeche work-in-progress ) MONTE MOIR !

Morris was on radio in Atlanata like 5 years ago talking about the new album and a live disc.I thought they had been working at PP w/Prince and the original lineup?I hope those sessions are still around soon available. Anyway,The Time tear it up live.I've seen them several times. There are some good boots available.I have one called Live in California and it is a soundboard.Very cool. I wonder if Prince still sees The Time as "relevant" today as ever, like rabid Time fans such as myself do ?
I really don't care what Prince's opinion of them is these days, I'm just curious to know where a new Time album would be on his priority list if he were in fact working on/producing one with them.

Why do they need P at all? They have certainly shown (Jam & Lewis, etc.) that they can write funky ass material w/out him Does he own the name or something? Do they *HAVE* to have his cooperation to make a record? I honestly don't see why.

Maybe he had control over "The Time", but now they seem to be officially referred to as "Morris Day and the Time". Anybody know the technical aspects of the Prince/Time business relationship since the old days ?

EF- from the looks of this thread you and I are the only TIME fanatics interested in it! I would LOOVE a new album, fo sho! Sometimes when old acts get back together the new record is actually pretty good. Especially funk acts. CHIC-ISM is a decent record. Its not on par w/ classic Chic, but the grooves are tight and you can put it on and dance around to it. Given that the Time have never stopped altogether and that their last work (PANDEMONIUM) was so good AND Jan & Lewis are involved... I would say they could make a KILLER album!!

The Time r supposed 2 b releasing a new CD this year in 2004. I'd like 2 see a 20th anniversary concert with Prince & The Revolution (with the original members from the 'Purple Rain' era) and ofcourse Morris Day & The Time. That would b 2 cool!

I remember the Time way back in the day, early eighties as a matter of fact. I actually got a couple of dates with a really sweet girl in high school because I had an albumn by the time. 777-9311 was slammin. We played that tune over and over. And what about the double breasted suits, and the stacey adams shoes? The only other dude I seen dress better than Morris Day and the Time was Ricky Ricardo! That was when style was in the music and of course the soul and the funk. Peace ,Paco

I love The Time. Just like EcstaticFanatic I became a Huge Prince fan through The Time.
I lisitened to Prince's music, but my favorite music was The Time's then I found out that The Time was being put out by Prince. This was around 1988, so Morris Day had his Fishnet solo album out and of course I bought that before I bought Sign of the Times. I have seen The Time perform twice with their current line-up, if it still includes the left-handed lead guitar(Rori or Tori??). Anyhow, when I heard him play I did not miss Jesse, even though I would love to see the original line-up again. The real reason I posted was I have Pandemonium in my car cd player right now

I've seen The Time live in their current incarnation three times. One of those times had Terry Lewis as a special guest (at a 1998? NYC show). I don't know if he did any more dates on that leg of the tour. I think both Jam & Lewis performed with them at Madison Square Garden maybe the same year as a one-time-only gig. It was during a holiday weekend (maybe Labor Day) and I was away on vacation and missed the show.
