"Mother of Pearl" still gets me. But really, with the exception of the first two tracks (which I generally skip) the whole album remains incredibly solid. Eroica prefigured most of the female pop of the early- to mid- nineties (not to mention directly inspired Veruca Salt, who got the idea for a band from I think the Chicago concert for Eroica). But then, the ladies are pretty much musicians' musicians, so little surprise they got little of the credit they richly deserved for this . . .

Veruca Salt is one of all time favorite bands smile Where did you hear that they were inspired by the Chicago concert for Eroica? I'm not trying to say you're wrong, I just never heard that before.I know Nina Gordon is a huge fan of Wendy & Lisa.On her website she names Eroica as one of her favorite albums of all time. She also said(sometime last year) that she recorded some stuff with them for her new album that she's working on and that Susannah even wrote one of the songs smile

Oh gosh -- there have been a few interviews mentioning this over the years . . . A quick Google yields:

http://www.chrispy.com/~c...OW685.html

Apart from the rite of passage associated with having a song transcribed in Guitar magazine, perhaps the most crucial moment in the Veruca Salt story occurred three years before the group was formed. It was still a long time before Gordon met her guitar-playing counterpart, Post, when they both happened to attend the same 1990 Wendy and Lisa concert in Chicago. Gordon recalls the moment of guitar enlightenment with born-again fervour.

"Seeing Wendy and Lisa perform just freaked us both out. This was before either of us thought of being in bands or committing our lives to making music. We've often talked about that show and how we each were in awe of these women. I couldn't believe what an amazing guitar player Wendy was and what incredible voices and harmonics they had. It was just a stunning show of beauty, power, strength and unity.

"There was just something overwhelming about these women storming on stage playing such powerful music. I didn't know whether I wanted to be these women or if I was in love with them. It was so shocking that it made me question everything about myself."

I'm sure there are others, but there you go. Just happed to be top of the Google list.

Have you ever heard Nina's cover of "I Think It Was December"? Nice stuff. I believe there's a clip of it here:

Enjoy!

PLEEEEAAAAAZZZZE... Do me a favour and post as soon as this album is released! I'm afraid I might forget it.
sad

And regarding the power of W&L concerts - just an example: I am an absolute and no-way-to-be-converted non dancer. Even at all the Prince concerts I've been to I just used to wiggle a bit.

BUT... then came Wendy and Lisa. We all got completely loose. And I'm talking of Germans, if you know what I mean! Ahhhh. Bring back those times.

I've been Very Bad Indeed about updates at the 'other site', but promise to keep an eye out for this and put a note in when this moves forward. Deal?

I'm not sure if the songs they recorded together will be on the new album sad I heard that Nina doesn't think the songs fit well with the rest of the album.I REALLY hope she changes her mind though...or at least puts the songs on her site to download. If I hear anymore about it I'll let you guys know wink

That sucks. Same thing happened with the Jonatha Brooke album Wendy worked on a couple of years back. I was glad to buy the album ("How Deep is Your Love" just kills me) but was really disappointed to not have Ms. Melvoin on it.

Eroica is in the top 3 of my all time favorite albums. Rainbow Lake is musical perfection. The instrumentation in that song is brilliant. I love those girls.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I always used to think the theme song from Just Shoot Me sounded like Wendy and Lisa, like a track from eroica (I know it wasn't them). Anyone else ever used to think that?
