The hype of the Revolution and Wendy and Lisa

Wendy and the rest of the Revolution should hope Prince takes them back because being in his band is the greatest thing that any of them have achieved in their careers. Let's face it - Wendy and Lisa would just be a couple of hagged out folksy lesbians playing in tiny LA clubs if Prince didnt make them internationally known with Purple Rain.

And will someone please explain - with some intellectual insight and analysis - what the facination with Wendy and Lisa is for most of the european and caucasian American fans. Anything they brought to the group was nothing greater than what other post-Revolution band members contributed. Hell, they are not even the best gutiarist and keyboardist that Prince ever had! They little storyline in the Purple Rain film about them writing the song is fiction, you know - Prince wrote that song in reality! Where is the respect for what Levi and Morris Hayes brought to the table? Are we to believe that Bobby Z couold even carry John Blackwell's jock strap? No guitarist has come along that could top Dez Dickerson's hard rock vibe. Why is there a lack of nostalgia for key band members in Prince's development like Dez or Andre Cymone or even Sonny T? I realize that they did have the benefits of being immortalized in the Purple Rain filom but I would think that grown up fans that are old enough to recall would know that Prince didnt get great when Wendy and Lisa showed up - he was already a genius.

There are at least 3 incarnations of the NPG that could smoke the Revolution from Purple Rain with ease. I try to resist the fairly obvious fact that Wendy and Lisa are two white girls and that is the main appeal for certain types of "fans" of, as Prince once said, "the lighter persuasion".

I have all of Wendy and Lisa's albums and one that was not even released. They do good music - but they dont deserve all the credit that is heaped upon them for their work with Prince. It is that simple. In fact, there is a limit to how much thet actually did once you sit down and read the history on those classic albums in the 80s such as Purple Rain, Parade, and Sign O the Times.

Now what? I didnt say anything rude. If this is an open forum for some serious discussion, I am within the rules to introduce an issue and the theory that I have to support it. Won't real fans want to speak to the issue and not attack the position?

You have to be the stupidist person posting on the Org today. The fact that you can use the term "hagged out folksy lesbians" speaks volumes of your stupidity. What is your deal? Did you send a fan letter full of tears to them and they told you to fuck off?? I know people who have less bitter ex-wives than you.

Wow, now you've actually put Wendy and Lisa fan's in a catagory now too. I now know what Tricky meant in UTCM about following you people home. Wendy and Lisa may not be the best guitarist or keyboardist Prince has ever had the honor of working with, but they're two that people are STILL talking about 18 years after they left. Prince still loves these girls and yet someone like you can't see that without being handed a map. Bobby Z may not be the drummer that John Blackwell is but who cares?? The music that Prince did with the Revolution is legendary.

Wow it gets worse lol Maybe you'd sound less obnoxious if you would start putting in "IMO" because it's in YOUR opinion that any version of the NPG could smoke the Revolution. I don't think any band has ever played with Prince better than the Revolution. The fact that you have Wendy and Lisa's albums doesn't count, you must PLAY them first. jerkoff They do deserve the credit they get, their influence on Prince is legendary. They introduced him to a new world of sound, if that's too hard for you to understand in those terms, go put on Eroica, hear that? That sound. The sound that Parade had and aborted Dream Factory also had. I hope you are just trying to get a rise out of people because it scares me that someone could really mean some of the stupid things that you post and I feel stupid for even giving your comments the time of day. But I thank you for the laugh of "what Morris Hayes" brought to the table. lol Morris' contributions to Prince's music would be under one of the table legs to keep it from being uneven.

NPGLOVER, you sound young to me, like you came across Prince's music late in life, but you really need to do your research before you make inane comments like this. I mean, its one thing to have an honest, legit opinion....not liking the revolution or whatever...but for you to say that wendy and lisa did nothing for prince is ignorant and totally dismissive and shows your lack of intellectual capacity. Like everlasting said, you're just trying to get a rise out of people. if you dont understand exactly what wendy and lisa brought to prince's music, then just SAY SO. dont be afraid to admit it. Perhaps you were like me once, wanting to give Prince props for everything and anything, and you felt the biting sting of truth hit you on the ass when you realized (gasp!) he actually had help from these two women...he didnt do it all, after all! If were you like me, than I my suggestion to you is to GET OVER IT. dont pass off your ignorance with rude comments about those two women, they dont deserve that. at ALL. in short...get off your ass, go put on parade and LISTEN. stop marching around this website with a chip on your shoulder about wendy and lisa, you've posted several times about them, you obviously have a problem with them for some reason. but you've done everything except the obvious...listening to the music. that's where the answer lies. stop being lazy, and just LISTEN. If you havent already, I suggest you go get a videotape copy of Prince and wendy's performance on the tavis smiley show. You'll see the chemistry there.
The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

That's correct about the "white girls" effect. The truth may hurt to some who look inside themselves, but that is a big reason for their appeal to a significant portion of Prince's fan base.

I also agree with you that their albums are decent, but of course Prince gets 99.5% of the credit for the albums in the 80s. Wendy and Lisa get maybe .2%, with the remaining .3% going to Dr. Fink and other band members, studio engineers, etc.

Wendy and Lisa's best contribution was the cool talking part at the beginning of Computer Blue.

And don't forget that when Prince "disbanded" The Revolution he basically only fired Wendy, Lisa, and Bobby Z. He asked Brown Mark and Dr. Fink to stay. This may tell you something about who was more valuable.

I don't think it's a color thing,I think it was a girl thing because they were "featured" by Prince. In the early 80's it was still unusual to have a band that "featured" women.
I also think the whole 1983-1986 Prince years were magical and people like to think of that timeperiod.

P.S.

Wendy and Lisa were/are cool.Blacks & Whites thought that then and I think that now .

i've got to agree with him on at least one point though... i've heard prince live from the early versions of his bands (80-82) and then the version of the revolution that is in "purple rain," and i honestly think that the earlier version of the band is the better live band... and i would rather see prince get back together with andre and dez dickerson...

Well "dude", I never said that I did not respect their talent. If you read closely you would have seen that I stated that I had all of their albums and then some and that they made some good music. I simply do not understand the credit for PRINCE'S music and career that they semm to get from some fans.

You know what you can do with your homophobia comments. I simply called them what they are: lesbians. Now as far as them being hagged out - well that has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I am not the only one that said Wendy looked old on Tavis. Go see the other posts.

If you cant take frank commentary adn debate, thats your problem.
