I LOVED this song back in the day! Wish I could find it on CD. I also like Cool Love and 101. The music does sound Prince-y, doesn't it?

I know it was pretty simple, but he made it sound so much fuller...that was the genius of Prince...

It was more than that - guitars as well(slightly distored playing a riff and solo later on). And there was a lot of layering of the sounds as well. Standard Prince formula. The dx7 bass sound stands out and has a slight modulaion on it (hear it better on the 12").

I think the chorus (vocal melody) is pretty weak and surprised it got high in the charts. The trademark Prince sound is there on the flanging hi hat sound at the start, but the guitar solo at the end just sounds aimless. I like 95% of the keyboard sounds prince chose in the 83-87 period.

Yeah,"Sugar Walls" is a very simple song, and it doesn't sound like Prince really spent alot of time on it.The lyrics are not some of his best...

"Blood races to your private spots
Let me know if there's a fire
You can't fight passion when passion is hot"

lol sounds like a rush job to me

One of my favorites from that era... so sensual, so funky, mmh... the extended version is so great... & i think the "sugar walls" idea made good lyrics.

Well...
