Sheila E.'s grandfather passes.... Sheila, you're in our thoughts!!
----- Pedro Escovedo LA MESA, Calif. (AP) - Pedro Escovedo, a laborer and amateur musician who became the patriarch of a musical family that includes drummer Sheila E. and former members of Santana, died Sunday of natural causes, said his son Mario Escovedo. He was 96. Two of his sons, Pete and Thomas ``Coke'', played with the famed Latin rock group Santana before forming a 14-piece Latin jazz band, Azteca. Another son, Alejandro, had his own orchestra; son Javier founded the Zeros, one of California's first punk bands; and Mario is part of the San Diego rock band Dragons. Pete Escovedo is the father of Sheila E., an acclaimed percussionist who has performed with Prince and Lenny Kravitz, among other artists, in addition to her work as a solo artist. Another of Escovedo's grandchildren, Peter Michael Escovedo, is musical director for ``The Wayne Brady Show'' on television. | |
