Dez's book... is it worth it?

How is Dez's book? What sort of stuff does it cover? he was there for a great deal of Prince's breakthru.

I want to get it but I don't want to be screwed over either.

Any suggestions?

Dez waited way too long to get this book out. The best time for him to cash in on his Prince connection would have been the mid to late 80s, when Prince still had a large fanbase.

I agree but caution. This is not a book about Prince! It is an insightful look at an African American musicians rise in the Rock n Roll world. I only point that out because there are some key issues that Dez had to deal with and you will understand them more once you read the book. Musicians will really enjoy this book because they can relate to the life of a road-dog. I am almost reluctant to say that I would like to see Prince himself write a book of this nature about those same times that Dez speaks of. It would be interesting to see (although the leader) another GROUP member's perspective. Personally I was very happy for the way Dez chose to write the book. No, he doesn't talk about orgys, Marilyn Monroe, cross-dressing, mud-sharks or any other stupid story that's floating about. It's a very spirtual uplifting read about a musicians chance to help start something wonderful while living his dreams as well.
I wish there was much more interest in this book so that you could go to your local bookstore and buy it. It's such a shame that scandel and sensationalism takes presidence.

I just got mine today. I only ordered it a week and a half ago. Dez autographed it. He wrote: "Life is not just a party" -Dez

Is this because he is religous and is saying something? Wasn't it Dez who sang "Life is just a party and parties wern't meant to last" in 1999? And he is playing refering to this in his signature. Did everyone get autographed copies?

Dez's book is DEFINITELY worth it! It is brilliantly written with humour and insight by someone who was THERE and knows the truth of P's early days. I couldn't put the book down and read it in 2 sittings...not because it is short, just that it is so damn interesting! It also contains some very cool old photos that I haven't seen elsewhere. Dez's new book is a sweet trip down memory lane and gives fresh insight into an era in music that is still greatly loved.
2 very big thumbs up for this book, you won't be sorry!

it's sooo worth it. Dez gives an insider perspective on the typhoon that was P and the Rev's journey. Dez made a fan outta me. I mean, I liked him before, but now I love him! Although I didn't appreciate the fact that he didn't thank P on that first page where he thanks everybody. I guess old wounds don't heal so well. poutsighdisbelief

...but since nobody's perfect I still love Dez!comfortkotc

Dez wrote a well thought out perspective of a roadie who struck it big at a young age and was disciplined enough to not get sucked into the facade of stardom. I loved the stuff about the foodfights and mobs chasing them and getting arrested on airplanes and signing autographs in jail (although acting like a fallen handicapped person was pretty cruel...)
