'Simple Life,' complex birth

Nicole Richie is finally identifying her biological father.

Paris Hilton's co-star on "The Simple Life" is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie. But she recently reunited on "The Wayne Brady Show" with its bandleader, Peter Michael Escovedo 3rd. Nobody on the program knew of the connection.

Nicole's biological dad was a percussionist in Richie's touring band, and Lionel was reportedly so taken with toddler Nicole that he asked Escovedo if she could move in with him and his wife, Brenda. According to Nicole, Escovedo and her biological mother, who had split up, decided the Richies could better provide for her.

"It's much more complicated than that," says Escovedo, who is the brother of Prince protégée Sheila E.

I knew it! We had this same discussion in the "Associated Artists" forum a few weeks ago.Nicole looks just like a member of the Escovedo family.

I knew she was adopted and related to Sheila E in some way, but didn't know the exact connection.

Exactly! I mentioned this in a thread some time ago, but someone suggested that she was the product of an affair between Lionel and a mistress.

Plus,at the time,HE was working as a percussionist in Lionel's band too,so he was getting paid.I think there's more to this story than meets the eye.

I think there is more to it too. I wonder if she has had contact with the Escovedo family over the years but on the other hand Prince lived with his neighbor for most of his childhood so who knows.

if you watch the Nicole Ritchie story on E! you can hear Sheila E. at the end, where Nicole is singing twinkle twinkle little star when she was like 3,4 or something. sheila says something like "she stop right when the music does"

How old was the Peter Micheal E at the time? I guess he wasn't that young becuase he was Lionel Riche's percussionist. Was something said on the show? And wouldn't the True Hollywood story tell the entire story of this, or at least some details. Sounds very strange!
