The Family LP: Interesting Credits

Still coming down off the high of seeing The Family perform LIVE at the Family Jamm (a dream come true!!!)... I dug out all my original LPs from the 80s.

The Family vinyl came in a really nice fold-out sleeve with lots of photos in the inside spread (the RIAA should look at this and learn why people will still buy music if it's packaged well!).

Anyway I noticed a few interesting tidbits:

  • The B&W photography on the front and back cover, as well as a couple in the inside spread, are by Horst, the famous fashion photographer.

  • The inside color photos are by Prince!

  • In the thank you's there must be a typo in Eric's section cuz he thanks Matt Elistan (obviously should be a "B" for Blistan)

  • There are AWESOME photos of Susannah throughout, from the cover to the inside spread.

  • St. Paul look so young!!! He was what 18 at the time? And he sounded just as good 2 weeks ago! They all did!

  • We all know Prince wrote the whole album (except for River Run Dry by Bobby Z), and that he let others appear as songwriters a la Appolonia 6, but it's interesting... Jerome is credited as the sole author of "Mutiny!" And as co-writer of the instrumental "Yes" with Jellybean. I guess he plays some mean percussion on that drum pad! wink

(Actually, I talked to him at the Jamm and asked him what his pad is hooked up to and he said the "claps" sound. It's weird cuz I never can hear it synched to his playing...even though I do hear Linn Claps during a song, they just don't seem tied together.)

Anyway, just some weird trivia. Happy New Year everyone!

Oh my G-d! Are you serious??!!

No wonder the music industry is falling apart. The people who run it are so dumb. Did they even bother to find out if he (or anyone else for that matter) actually has musical talent??

I'm trying to remember if I actually believed that (i.e. the Jerome writing credit) when I read back in '85...of course I was only 18...

Jerome probably just got lost in the shuffle. They (A&M) were being sold around that time. Herb Alpert sold it, to whom I can't recall (Virgin, maybe). Visual reference: Diamonds-Herb Alpert video (Janet Jackson, Jerome, Jellbean. Produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.) Anyway, acts often get dropped in the transfer of power.

Prince and his photography. He also shot the 12" cover of Sheila E. for "Koo Koo."
