Is it preachy? Is it amusing? Does it shed new light on any conceptions that you may have had about Prince? Do tell.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

NO... the book is not at ALL preachy.
Dez does declare his religous beliefs, but his doing it was done in a rather classy manner, in a manner where if u read the book it doesn't change the story, nor make Dez look like some religious nut. He truly tells his story in a respectable manner! Dez is truly down to earth and has his head on straight and takes you along his journey with Prince in a way that makes you feel like your tagging along.

Any conceptions on Prince? Hmm, if anything it verified my suspicion that Prince is VERY much an everyday kinda person, such as you or I. Altho I couldn't help to feel a little for Prince, in the perspective of him not being able to exactly lead a normal life. It's not like he can just get in the car and take a ride down to the Piggly Wiggly for some peanut butter, ya know?!

You really do get an idea of Prince, moreso of how it was for Dez, and Dez was there and knows first-hand. Dez and Prince had a relationship that was truly extraordinary!

I hope one day that they're paths will cross again, because I think they have a real respect for each other.

So drop any expecations you might have, that Dez is out there to be preachy, that Dez is out to write a tell-all about Prince, cuz this ISN'T what the book is about.

YES there are the interesting tidbits, but nothing that is WAY OUT there. I highly recomend the book, do pick a copy up!!

And there's a pic from the Stones show where they got booed the first time. I haven't put the book down yet, it's amazing to read stories from someone who came up the ladder with Prince, not just rehashed urban legends.

that's true. acccording to the book, Prince got pissed at people throwing paper cups.Next thing Dez knew , Prince left the stage .They finished the song as quick as possible & followed suit.

You may be right. It sounds more dramatic if he gets booed off the stage...

Did he say this in someone's ear?? He didn't say a word until he started the first verse, I was just listening to that show too.

I read this story about Prioce being booed off the stage in Rolling Stone. It wasnt a quote of Prince so saying that Prince embellished the truth is bullshit

I'm almost positive it was "Bambi" he ripped in to right after, but I'll have to double check it now. I know somewhere on that 12 CD set he says those very words. I'll get back to you...

He also said this during the aftershow at the Emporium ( London ´95) and on several other occasions...you might also want to read Dave Hill´s "Prince. A Pop Life." where Dez says they were indeed booed off the stage. And as far as I can recall , Prince DID say something like that at the Celebration, too.
