A ?uestion About Jill Jones

Its probably not that important but I'm curious about it. Did Jill eknowledge about being a "black woman" at all? I know it says in her bio that she's the daughter of a black model & an Italian man but is she personaly upfront about that?

Peace

I don't think she was ever as "up-front" about her parentage as she has been simply "matter-of-fact" about it.

How about the fact that her album on E-Bay is going for more $ than Prince's. Cause it's Rare. Now that is WACKED!>

The thing is,Prince and his proteges were NEVER "upfront" about their racial identity to begin with. That's why there are always alot of rumors, lies and mis-information concerning what race they are (on this site,we STILL get the occasional "what race is Prince? thread).I remember when Vanity 6 first came out,a magazine reported that Vanity is "Eurasian"...lol...

I think Prince likes the confusion, and having people constantly speculate about these things. But don't look for him (or Jill) to ever come out and finally set the record straight.

I was a fan of Jill since Purple Rain and her album. I don't hink she ever "hid it"...but what does being "upfront about it" mean anyway?

It's not like she was ever on 20/20 or had any major media exposure!

Why are people of mixed background always expected to "be upfront"... and announce what they are? People of one racial background don't go around in interviews saying "well first off I'm black/white" etc.

Mariah got flack for this all the time and I think it's really unfair to hold certain people to a different standard.

Of course, denying or intentionally covering up something is a different story.

Well, nevermind that. Here's my question. Was that Jill that I saw singing backup for Chic. I recently caught one of their live videos, and I could've sworn that Jill was onstage with the funky legends.

OMG, DavidEye!!! I was about to mention the same thing! I'll never forget that quote. I heard it when the group first came out. Guess her look was so ambiguous, so exotic...plain 'ol black just wasn't gonna do!

As for Susan, she looks a bit East Indian, by way of the West Indies.

Muffs, it's a great album. It's rare 'cause peeps are keeping their copies, versus selling them on ebay. Have you heard it? It's the shit.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

One of the best records to emerge from the dire Paisley Park label.

Last night,I kept listening to My Man,and just loving her vocals on that song, specifically toward the end when she sings," Can't you try and love me baby, can't you understand,my man,my man "

"My Man" is a pop gem. It's a catchy slice of late-80s pop,and I really think it should have been the first single from her album.

No one really cares...Most were told to not claim a racial identity to help with a cross over appeal. In the 1980's Many black artist had a hard time so it was sort of selling out to sell records not to be labeled a black artist. So in a way somebody did care about race. It would be nice to live in a world where no one is judged by the shade of their skin. But Racism does exist.
sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.
