Morris Day's "Guarenteed"

Any thoughts on this album?

While not worthless, it is an unwelcome deviation from the Mpls Sound that just doesnt fit. The writing and production is all wrong for Morris. It sounds as if he was trying to stay on the radio - easily the worse thing he has ever done. It closed his solo career.

I hate to say this, but Morris Day as a solo artist just doesn't work.I have his first two solo albums,'Color Of Success' (1985) and 'Daydreaming' (1988) and while there a couple of great songs on each one, most of it is just over-synthesized,over-produced funk music.Whereas The Times' music was distinctive and catchy, his own solo songs lack that certain something.Without Prince and the Time backing him,he simply sounds lost.

"Guarenteed."

Mm, mm, mm.

I remember YEARS ago, when the song from this album "Gimme what you got" was played on (I believe) the Donnie Simpson show (he was on KYS back then)..

I couldn't BELIEVE it was Morris Day. I couldn't BELIEVE that he would associate himself with a song SO HORRENDOUS. That 1 song was SO BAD, I didn't dare listen to the rest of it..
IT WAS HORRIBLE
Ugh!

Especially coming after a MUCH BETTER song like Fishnet, which of course was produced by former bandmates Jam & Lewis..

Morris has proven himself to be a MUCH BETTER drummer than singer..
for Morris to be at his "best" as a singer (& performer), the music (& lyrics) have to be particularly good. If they're not, you get
"gimme what you got"
a song I truly would not wish on my WORST "enemy"..
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I bet that even Moris doesnt listen to it. I noticed that it is the only album that doesnt have at least one song in the Time live set. I have heard then play from al 4 Time albums and the first 2 Morris albums but never Guaranteed.

I didn't hear "Daydreaming" nor this one but I absloutly love "Color Of Success". It doesn't add nothing tho, Morris Day with the same attitude but without the Times nor Prince backing him up. Nevertheless, that record was cool 2 listen to.

'Daydreaming' was notable only for the two tracks that Jam and Lewis produced: "Fishnet" and the excellent slowjam "Love Is A Game".The rest of the album sounds too synth-heavy and over-produced (the same problem that ruined most of the 'Color Of Success' album).

true..'the character', 'love sign', and 'love/addiction' all have that same synth sound. It's nice and everything, but that's half of the album!
I hate to say this, but Moris is truly lost with Prince, that's why he didn't have such a spectacular solo career.
