Where is Rosie Gaines??

I love Rosie.Unlike most of Prince's female proteges, this chick can SING.But,sadly, like most of Prince's proteges, she seems to have disappeared.Does anyone know what she's up to these days? In 1990,it sure looked like she would go onto to become the next big superstar from the Prince camp, but it certainly hasn't turned out that way.She has had alot of bad luck along the way...

***In 1992,she signed a solo deal with Paisley Park Records and began recording a new album.Prince was heavily involved with the production. But it soon became apparent that Prince was more focused on the Carmen Elektra project.More than $2 million had been spent to promote the Carmen CD,which ultimately bombed when it was released in early 1993."My album didn't come out because I didn't sleep with Prince" Rosie angrily said in an interview.

***By late 1993,Rosie's CD was finally finished and set to be released on March 24,1994 (I think that's the correct date). It was a 16-song album titled 'Concrete Jungle' and this is the rumored tracklist...

"Try Me"
"Lost In The Wilderness"
"Slow Man" (or "Snow Man"?)
"Swing Hard"
"I Almost Lost You"
"Concrete Jungle"
"December 25th"
"Do What You Want Me To Do"
"Crazy Mutha Funky"
"Greatest Touch"
"My Tender Heart"
"Play The Beat"
"Turn Your Lights Down Low" (a Bob Marley remake)
"Jah Love"
"We The People"
"Poor Little Girl"

***Unfortunately,Warner Bros. shut down the Paisley Park Records label in early 1994,and thus,Rosie's album was never released. There was some talk of her signing directly with Warner/Reprise,but in the end,she left and signed with Motown instead. She began recording a new album from scratch, keeping only a few of the 'Concrete Jungle' tracks.

***In 1995,her Motown debut 'Closer Than Close' was released but it bombed and she was dropped from the label.According to Rosie,Prince asked her to return to the NPG and she said that she was "seriously considering it".She appeared on her former boss' 1996 albums 'Chaos and Disorder' and 'Emancipation',but never completely returned to the fold.

***Around 2000 or so,Rosie decided to make a new album for NPG Records, with Prince as her producer. They dug up an old song from the vaults "Hit U In The Socket" (from 1994) and a new CD was promised. Not surprisingly, the album never came out (sound familiar?) and currently,Rosie doesn't seem to be too active in the music biz.I don't know what went wrong, but it's a damn shame that a great talent like Rosie is not being heard and getting the exposure/success she deserves.

But she deserves so much more than just the occasional cameo on someone else's CD!

The album 'No Sweeter Love' was recorded before Rosie hooked up with Prince.. It was shelved and only saw the light of day a couple of years back.

Sorry Agotajonesmartha - but the pic in your avatar is the sleeve to Rosie's Motown single for 'Are You Ready'

Rosie has am amazing voice. It's too bad she hasn't made it bigger. I have only one of her cd's and I listen to it often. She has real talent. I think Prince promised her the sun, moon and stars, but she never got what was promised. Gee, does this sound familiar??
