Shelia E, the self titled album!

If love the "Shelia E" album, post it here!

Am I the only one that thinks this album is absolutely amazing? Its a great blend of eighties R&B with some pop, jazz and latin influence. Hot! I was relly surprised how much it grew on me considering the fact that I hated "Romance 1600" but this is totally different. Was there any Prince involment on this one. Its even a great deal better than "The Glamourous Life" although it really doesn't have any hit singles (or likely hit singles). I just love this album!

Listening o that right now!
I love this album. "Pride and the Passion" (love dancing to this one everytime it's on), "Soul Salsa","Faded Photographs", and "Boys Club". I like the latin sound to it as well. Hard to pick a favourite Sheila E. cd. But this one definitely gets a lot of play in my cd player! Great thread Vinny! wink

My favorite Sheila album.

Really dig "Wednesday Like a River", "Hold Me", "Hon E. Man" and "Love on a Blue Train."

The b-side of Hold Me - "The World is High" - is BANGIN'!!

And Sheila is flat out HOT on the cover.

This is my favourite Sheila E. album.
Lots of REALLY good stuff. Excellent songwriting, excellent production ... this is how EVERY associate Paisley Park album should have looked like.

This is my favorite Sheila E. album too. It's her strongest, most consistent album ever. The sultry first single "Hold Me" was quite a surprise.Sheila was never known as a great vocalist, but on this tune, she holds her own and sounds fantastic. Then there is the rocking "Faded Photographs",the down and dirty funk workout "Love On A Blue Train",the infectious club track "Boy's Club",and the shoulda-been hit "Pride And The Passion".There is no filler on this album, every cut shines and vocally,Sheila has never sounded better.

With proper promotion and marketing, this is the album that should have made Sheila a huge superstar in her own right.Alas,by the time this CD came out,she had already put her own career on hold to become Prince's drummer. As a result, this great album didn't receive much promotional support and it quickly disappeared.

I listened to it recently... loved it.
I always considered it her weakest album with Paisley but I now think it's the strongest.

"Boys Club" is FUNKY.
"Pride and the " is one of the best tracks out of Paisley .

The song "Pride and the Passion" seems to be a sequel to "The Glamorous Life".It covers the same theme(a woman who is afraid to commit to love).

"Pride And The Passion" is an awesome track and could have been a hit single! My favorite off the album and my favorite Shelia track ever!

I fully agree! I don't know why this song wasn't released as a single. It's a catchier song than "Koo Koo",and with a slick video, could have been a huge summer '87 smash.

Wow! I just popped in the CD and headed over here after getting an idea for a post based on Love On a Blue Train!

Yeah, it's really a great album, but the two tracks I cannot get into are Faded Photographs and Soul Salsa, I skip them all the time.

But I love the last song, just a great last song ala It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night.

Also, I think this album was recorded around the Dream Factory era. It has that sound and feel on some tracks.

Oh,I love that song so much! A killer rock song with an insanely catchy chorus,I'm sure this could have been a huge pop hit in 1987.I love the fiery vocals on the chorus and the long, twisted guitar solo. This song is explosive!

Yeah,in my area, our local R&B station played that song and "Love On A Blue Train" for several weeks.I guess the DJs were enthusiastic about those two particluar tracks. This is one album that really could have been a HUGE success, with proper promotion.

She could've seriously gotten some airplay with "Faded Photographs".

...what a shame... disbelief
