I love Vanity but I have to agree with Bill's coment about her vocals.Her vocals on this album are atrocious and her songwriting is pretty bad the best thing about this album is "Mechanical Emotion" and that's mainly because of the hot groove and Morris Day's vocal contribtion.

"Under The Influence" is from her second album,Skin On Skin,released in 1986.

yes,"Faraway Eyes" and "Undress" are great tunes.Her vocals had really improved.Jesse Johnson produced those tracks and he did a good job.

Bit up until last year the best they could muster was to include it on some dance diva CD compilation in the 90s. While Pretty Mess appeared on a gay music dance compilation around that same time.

Wolfer seems to think that Wild Animal was never reissued because it is simply a bad album that sold poorly.When she was still alive,Vanity also distanced herself from those albums.I wonder if her estate has any say-so on these albums or if they have anything planned for the future.

I doubt if her estate has any say-so. Universal put Skin On Skin out digitally a couple of years ago, but Wild Animal is still the lone holdout. There could be any number of reasons: the masters might be lost or destroyed, the team at Universal may not be interested in tracking them down or they simply don’t care. It could even be tied up in licensing issues. Who knows.

I do have a great copy that a local record shop transferred to CD for me a few years ago so that may be as good as it gets for now but there’s always hope. I never thought Skin On Skin would ever see a digital release either but it finally did.
