Chaka Khan at Sydney Opera House April 22, 2025

Saw Chaka Khan last night at the Sydney Opera House where I saw Prince perform "Piano and a Microphone" in Feb 2016, 2 months before he passed. I was disapointed that she didn't acknowledge the "9 year anniversary of his passing" 1 day after April 21, nor that she was on the same stage he first and last time performed there.

The only Prince mention at all was this "Prince asked me to write a song about God so I wrote a poem called "Eye Remember You". Then she sang that from Come 2 my House and that was it. I know it was "Chaka 50 Years of music" tour but I thought it was a little odd with no other mention of him. She plays there again tonight.

There were meet and greets with selfies available if you bought the high end tickets, and if you donated to her charity you also had a chance for one of these. The band was superb especially the drummers who worked incredibly hard. Was a great concert !

Forgot to mention - Apparently at other gigs on this tour there is a video presentation showing hightlights of her life and Prince appears last on the screen and introduces her BUT this is not possible at the Opera House as the screen showing the clips would obscure the view of people behind the stage. Same thing happened with Prince for Piano and a Microphone where there was a colourful video shown behind him through his performance at the other venues but not at the Opera House.

I also felt a bit disappointed that Chaka didn't mention Prince more, especially on that iconic stage tied to his legacy. Still, the concert sounded amazing with a top-notch band – those drummers absolutely killed it! Hopefully, future shows might adjust the visuals despite the Opera House's screen limitations. Thanks for the detailed review! color block jam level
