Jill Jones new album “The London Sessions”

https://www.dunfermlinepr...new-album/

“Her new album, which will be released by Neil Billinness‘ own label NERO Music, includes eight tracks that were recorded in London back in the 1980s, and has therefore been named 'The London Sessions'.”

“The first single from the album, 'Unattainable Love' was released on Valentine's Day, and the new single 'Red' will be out on Wednesday, March 6. The London Sessions album is set to be released on Tuesday, April 16.”

Edit: Some of the tracks are mentioned on Prince Vault about Jill’s proposed second album:

The first single, Unattainable Love, is EXCELLENT. I just bought a digital download of the track from Amazon. It isnt available to stream or buy via Apple Music/Itunes which is my preferred option.

There is an audible click noise in the digital master at 2 minutes 18 seconds (2:18) that needs to be fixed. I went to the song on YouTube to verify it wasn't just in my mp3 download from Amazon.

I'm gonna check this out because I really like her voice and her solo album.

Semi OT but I recently found out Jill's daughter Zuzu's bio Dad is former model Cameron Alborzian from Madonna's Express Yourself video. I didn't even know they were a couple!

Think the tracks, including this one (Unattainable Love) are demos, as Prince Vault mentions them being sent to Prince for consideration on her second album for Paisley Park Records that was never released. Intrigued by the other tracks but imagine they will be in a similar style.

There is a long and boring story as to why this click is present, but the file is now in the process of being swapped with a corrected version with all the Digital Music Stores involved. So Glad you like the song, the new single ‘Red’ is out today. The new single also includes ‘Unattainable Love’ as an extra track, again the click is present but it was too late in the distribution process to upload the corrected version, so this will be rectified in due course also.

You are correct, these are indeed those tracks. They have been shut away and unheard for far too long ... 😀🧡❤️💚

Unattainable Love is unlistenable to me. Which is really unfortunate because I know there's a really good song there but that drum or percussion or whatever it is just drives me insane. It's so annoying. It's like they gave Woody Woodpecker some LSD and let him go wild in the studio.

Thanks Neil for sharing this information with us - I’ve just checked out the latest release, ‘Some Of Us’. It sounds great with Jill’s voice and some quite intricate Prince-like musicianship.

It says on Prince Vault about the proposed second album, “The project began in Autumn 1988 when Jill Jones went to London, England to work on a collection of songs with musician Chris Bruce. Eleven songs were recorded ("Deep Kiss", "Living Legend", "Long Time", "White", "Some Of Us", "Red", "Tango", "Ecstasy", "Revolutionary", "Sweet Liberty" and "Unattainable Love") and submitted by Jill to Prince before being shelved…”

Of the collection of 11 songs that Jill worked on, did any of them have Prince input beforehand, e.g. Prince and Jill worked on demos that Jill took to England, which were developed further by her and Chris Bruce? Or were they entirely from the collaboration between Jill and Chris (and others?)?

Absolutely no input from Prince, although he did tinker with ‘Revolutionary’ and it became ‘Flesh and Blood’ afterwards..

Jill discusses the songs in detail on a podcast for Phonogenics 101 she and I recently took part in, it is a fascinating and very moving piece, and can be found on YouTube.

Yeah they should just include the other three tracks too.

“Flesh and Blood” would also be a good addition, since it evolved from the song “Revolutionary”.

This is because, of the songs that were recorded, the other three have proven impossible to locate. The original source tape these songs came from listed the missing three in the cassette inlay card, but weren’t on the tape, and neither Jill or Chris has copies of them.

‘Flesh and Blood’, while certainly a reworked ‘Revolutionary’, would probably have been a logistical nightmare to obtain the necessary permissions, and, tonally, wouldn’t have sounded right alongside these songs.

Also note that despite the original post stating hat this album would include eight songs, this release will only feature 7 of them, as one is a cover version of Louise Goffin’s song ‘Deep Kiss’, which appeared on her 1988 album ‘This Is The Place’. Licensing issues with the song have prevented it from being included this time around, but there are plans for an expanded release to include ‘Deep Kiss’ as well as extended versions and remixes of the other songs.

Glad you like “Some Of Us’, it’s long been a favourite of mine. Just wait until you hear the remix by Anthony Bachelor, coming out later in the year... It takes the track to a whole new level 😀

Thanks for convincing her, Neil. This is super exciting.

If all goes well, please ask her to release more material from the 90s that we would love to hear.
