Have seen Judith five times here in NYC and she is amazing and her band is always top notch. She's a stellar musician performer and works well with the stage. I sometimes laugh when people call her a prince protege and lump her into the camren Electra of the world. Judith did things long before prince as did Andy Allo, yes they got influence from him for sure, played with him, but Prince was pulling some hot chick with no talent in with him and putting his stamp all over the work, through prince did do production with both of them, they are not his protégés. Judith Hill's artistry to me is light years past any that prince fans have lumped her in with even the ones we regard as top of the mountain like Shelia E, Judith is way past. |

From the way she talks, I would imagine she would say her biggest influence has been her mom. Which you can totally hear when you listen to her mom play. And you can see it in their interactions on stage. And her dad obviously has had an influence as well. You can tell she was raised by two accomplished musicians. I talked to her mom briefly last night and it was funny how shy she was, compared to her onstage presence which is very confident and sometimes aggressive. Sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing

I really believe she more talented than 95% of most artists out these days that aren't really known. Graycap23 was ME! |

Did you hear her CD? I was really impressed by her when I listened to her and regret not being able to catch her live show when I wanted to. |

The local jazz club in Seattle is bringing her in every year. Which is great. Because she will do between 2-6 shows. Sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing

Yeah thats it perfectly when I saw her the first two times at the Blue Note in NYC and then a few times at other venues here in NYC she was all about her family and all they meant to her and they are a tight band always. The only real time she mentioned PRINCE was the first time I saw her which was Mid 2016 so it was months after his passing so she did mention him a bit also |

That Levenkusener Jazzrtage have some nice broadcast from 2022. I was impressed by Judith Hiil's performance , even when I expected it because she really is a good musician. which comes through on CD. Trying to catch a show in the Netherlands.
Sometimes it feels that "the worked with Prince stamp" is not really a blessing from the general public / fan side. [Edited 3/18/23 3:09am] |
