do you guys think that, maybe the reason that Vanity's solo material hasn't been reissued/remastered is because of her becoming religious later in life? hmmm She totally disowned her old persona and image. She was probably ashamed of songs like "Pretty Mess" smile

That is a possibility BUT if she didnt own the masters, which she probably did not I am guessing she really would have no say, or in this case anyone handling her affairs would have NO leg to stand on in court. Artists do things they later in their career think stinks or whatever but that little label you were on is going to milk what they can. I mean the band HEART had this happen with that album "Magazine" they went to court and lost, STYX wanted to in 1995 do a best of set and put LADY on there and the label they were first signed to said NO and they had to re record the song which worked for them because they were better players at that point.

This! Labels generally don't care about artist opinions when they are choosing which albums to reissue. I have heard artists complain over the years about not being consulted regarding reissues and not receiving a cut of the profits. I'm not sure what's going on with Motown and why they choose to constantly reissue certain titles (how many more versions of Rick James "Street Songs" do we need?) while others have yet to see the light of day on CD. I inquired with Funky Town Grooves years ago as to why they have not reissued Vanity's solo albums? They said they had requested those titles several times from Universal but could never receive clearance for them as well as several other albums. Then, both FTG and Big Break told me Universal had become impossible to work with because they were asking for exorbitant fees to license any titles so that's why they slowed down considerably. And Universal Japan just recycles the same titles over and over again.

Universal own all the Motown catalogue so that explains what I said earlier about the rather alarming lack of Motown reissues in general. Thanks for the info sad

kondwanii said:Yes. I think this is the reason. . I'm not really sure about this... not only Vanity's Motown albums were not re-issued during the 90's/00's, but other albums by former Prince-associates, like BrownMark and Mazarati didn't get a re-release by Motown either. I guess it wasn't a priority for the label, especially since these albums were never very successful to begin with. . [Edited 4/24/22 13:28pm]

The difference between Vanity's albums and Brownmark's and the second Mazarati album is at least the latter two got initial CD releases from Motown. Vanity's two solo albums have never been digitally released anywhere. Any digital files found online are homemade vinyl rips.

Honestly, the estate are a joke. I have moaned on the Morris thread too (which is still pathetic how they are going after Morris but anyway), but pointless LP reissues of The Time and thats it as far as reissues go for associated artists. No Vanity 6 reissue is just crazy.

at the very least, they should release some kind of Vanity ‘best of’ compilation. They could take the best moments from her two solo albums, add “Undress” and “Faraway Eyes” from the Action Jackson soundtrack,as well as “7th heaven” from the Last Dragon soundtrack. There is a rumor that she started a third solo album in the late 80s.Give us those tracks too! i saw her on a TV show in 1989 and she performed a very nice, jazzy song that is probably from those sessions.

"Undress" & "Far Away Eyes" were Produced by Jesse Johnson

cool

This could be also the reason as well.

I can't see The Estate not capitalizing off of the Vanity6 40th Anniversary since "NAsty Girl" was such a huge hit for the group. It DESPERATELY needs a remaster like the original Time album has received
