As Morris said this is a "wasted opportunity". Can you imagine how great it would be to get expanded, SD versions of these incredible Time records with the buy-in and assistance of the band & Prince Estate. I really can't undertsand why there is such a delay on Deluxe packages around the Time, Sheila E and other significant associate records. Are these releases really that costly to assemble? All the tracks are effectively cut (bar re-mastering) and the content is probably all just sitting in the Vault. if I worked at Warner this back catalogue would be ALL re-issued while the ageing fanbase who would be most interested in it are still alive!

Even with Morris Day now backing the release, I think it's still kinda disappointing. I saw the tracklist prior to him speaking out about it, and hoped with him now on board the content on disc two would change. I would much rather it be a live album or demos rather than the same album songs but shorter. Personally I don't see a point to it, but £26 for two coloured vinyls, there can be worse things. Plus we've got an upscaled version of the Cool music video now. Hopefully in future we'll get a SDE version of this, but it'll do for now I guess. Fingers crossed!! eye dont think U heard me . . .

It looks like a nice reissue, but those single edits are pointless.

According to the press release the digital version will be remastered: "In celebration of the album's 40th anniversary, Rhino will release an Expanded Edition created from the original analog tapes and is available as a 2- LP red and white set (PRICE) and features several alternate takes of the six main album tracks. The digital version was remastered under the supervision of Morris Day. Both will be available July 16 and are available for pre-order now." Cool Part 1 (2021 Remaster) is up on streaming platforms now. Here's the press release https://www.prweb.com/rel...033465.htm

Great news, no need to pick up the vinyl now. Thanks. Guessing they're using the same master for both versions, hopefully the vinyl isn't just a digital transfer onto wax. Prince: 1958-infinity. Thank U for everything.

I'm happy there is a digital version.
I hope we can expect Vanity 6 next year, and on CD.

It's time the public tells these companies what 2 do with the single edits............ FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Just listened to "The Stick" from the remastered digital version. All sounding good so far, mostly like the original vinyl master, Prince's BGVs sound louder to me. [Edited 7/16/21 7:58am] Prince: 1958-infinity. Thank U for everything.

Oh man...wow. I just got it from HDTracks and I haven't even played it on my stereo (Benchmark DAC2, B&W CM10ss2, Classe SIgma AMP2, B&W DB4S Sub) but know full well this kicks the sh** out of the original cd. That original now seems like a heavy comforter is covering my speakers. To think how many more amazing remasters are coming....so excited!

Sonically a lot of early cd's were TRASH. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Yes, tell them to keep including them because they are an important part of the history of the albums. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

From where I'm stting, they are taking up space 2 make $$ rather than releasing new or unknown material. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Bless you, VaultCurator. Thanks very much for this. Much of what you have shown and said rings true of the audio profile for the mastering of those 1980-83 releases. Looks like a better job than was done on the SOTT remaster. Hope you manage to get your headphone socket fixed!

This is the third Time coloued vinyl reissue from the last few years. What Time is It? (I paid £20.18) and Ice Cream Castle (£24.99) contained just the album. This new reissue has a second disc of single edits and is selling for £21.26. If we convince the record companies to stop giving us single edits, you know what they'll replace them with? Nothing. And for the same price. Some of us really do want them, so please can we stop complaining about the presence of the single edits and just ignore them if they're of no interest to you.

I'm loving how the new red & white vinyl sounds! Thanks RHINO for releasing this. And also happy that the remastered version is available on Spotify.
I hope that they release PANDEMONIUM next! I just discovered that they have the "Jerk Out" video on their YouTube https://www.youtube.com/w...givTqOZntc "purplelectricity whenever our bodies touch"

Does anyone understand how WB is able to release these remasters with little to no estate involvement? Would this conflict with the Estate focusing on the same albums? I am all for WB continuing to re touch these old albums.

Agreed - I’d certainly hope for example that if ATWIAD or Come ever get the deluxe vinyl reissue treatment, they don’t miss out the various maxi single versions from those. Haven’t given my reissue of this The Time debut a spin yet, but the dweeby-completist me is happy to have the extras.

I’ve been listening to it on Spotify.Sounds great!

I agree. Some collectors (like me) are completists so we like to hear or own all the official stuff. Doesn't mean I'm going to listen to them regularly but I'm glad I've got them if I want to. It's quite obvious there are very few if any Time outtakes, if there were they would have leaked by now like the Vanity 6 second album ones. As far as new material, why would they add it to this release? Honestly... people complaining about the delxue editions not fitting on their record shelves or getting extra material on a re-release... whatever next??? 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

Single edits are good for playlisting on streaming when you don't want all 8-10 minutes of a song on there, i'll never buy single edits on vinyl outside of the original single though.

Some people seem to forget that this wasn't planned as some super deluxe release. This was a "let's do something for Black Music Month; oh look, it's also the 30th of The Time, let's spend very little effort and add a bonus disc of edits" release. . WBR also only have access to those edits, not to outtakes (if those even exist) or live recordings. . That we're getting a remastered release on digital platforms was possibly never planned. The Sheila E re-release from a while back only got us this: https://www.youtube.com/w...HxpP5hRSDg ; same with Tevin Camplbell: https://www.youtube.com/w...1ixm3c7MM4 . Now at least we got a Hi-Res remaster, plus a HD version of the "Cool" video: https://www.youtube.com/w...5RwQ6d35wA. © Bart Van Hemelen
