Morris Day on Questlove Supreme Morris is on the latest Questlove Supreme podcast. It dropped last night and goes for almost 3 hours. I listened to the interview and he dropped a few new tidbits that I wasn’t aware of. Enjoy!!!!! |

If Morris Day had been Prince's Drummer, He would have been FIRED like Everybody else when P wiped the Slate clean after "Parade"!!! I think He made out ALRITE in the long run! Also: I just CANNOT imagine Alexander O'Neal as the Lead Singer of The Time ("Innocent" is the CLOSEST We'll ever get 2 THAT)! He also made out better in the long run! I guess thank goodness 4 Perkins and a Steak????

I agree - although Alex singing "Jerk Out" is a really interesting concept. I think I could really get into that. Anyway, like many mega-successful people in entertainment, in addition to being very driven and hardworking Prince was the recipient of (more than) his own fair share of plain old good luck. Being forced into manufacturing a lead singer/front persona out of the drummer when Alex dropped out was the best thing that ever could have happend to The Time - and really, to Prince. Because if Alex had fronted the Time, I don't know if Purple Rain the movie would have been the giant hit it was. And that movie is what made Prince ultra-big time. |

I liked the interview but the part about Prince being booed off stage when he opened for the Rolling Stones in October 1981 didn´t make much sense to me. Morris said he was the videographer for Prince´s shows and recorded that infamous show, and later Prince suggested getting him a record deal for The Time, but The Time´s debut album was released in July 1981. But I guess after so many decades it´s normal to get things mixed up a bit. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" | |

Morris has a new solo album on the way.He recently recorded a new track with Big Daddy Kane.

It's 2 funny (or sad) when U have listened 2 and have read so many interviews that U know at least 90% of the answers B4 the questions R answered. Also funny that (not so long ago) BrownMark stated that he was the bass player 4 the V6 gig that Jam and Lewis missed. He said that's where Prince taught him the 7779311 bassline. I wonder why Morris remembers it differently. | |
