No, I think it was a shift in style and genre. Prince himself struggled in the same vein. . Jill Jones struggled, because of timing placed on her album overall. Mia Bocca was a great song, if released in 1986 with Parade etc it might have been bigger (same with GSpot) She talked a lot about why she feels her album didn't go further. Mia Bocca also suffered from the Tipper Gore stain.

Wendy & Lisa have been credited with 5 lps in their name...the last one released in 2008...the only single that ever appeared on a chart was "Waterfall" peaking at #56 from their debut lp in 1987...no other single or lp has appeared on any US charts since then, in America...and sales for their albums has been miniscule...so im obviously in the majority, when i say their music is and was, Trash...very disposable...the few people that bought their work, wouldve have never known who they were, if they werent Prince fans first and foremost..W&L have no musical identity of their own... they will always be known as "the two ladies from The Revolution" [Edited 4/28/21 7:56am]

I agree that Jill’s album suffered from timing. It should have came out in early 1985,so that she could have benefitted from the Purple Rain hype. Her album was delayed too long and truthfully, songs like “G-Spot” and “All Day,All Night” sounded kinda dated by 1987.

- I just love her new album. It's an album she should've done decades ago. So happy she fiunally came to it. Hope she keep on doing more solo music. - I also like her online radio podcasts; musicLAB She's got a very good taste of music : https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/lisa-colemans-musiclab-podcast/id1497358816 - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. if Wendy & Lisa went on tour, the only people that would show up, are the 4 or 5 people that emotionally (and profanely) express their undying support for them.. .have they ever even toured their own music?...or are they just living off of "performing" Prince's catalog, after his death?

Yes, it is interesting how, G-SPOT released in 84/85 would have been electric cranking etc and still feel like that with continued listen in 86 87 88 -. But released outside of the time zone and it then sounds 'dated' almost. Still good, but

Exactly and in fact, the whole G-spot phenomenon was happening in 1983 when the song was recorded by 1987,it was already old news, lol

as for André Cymone....his 1985 ‘A/C’ album is excellent. It is mostly remembered for the Prince-written hit “The Dance Electric”,but I like the other songs too, especially “Pretty Wild Girl”,”Book Of Love” and my favorite, “Neon Pussycat” (which really should have been a single).

- Here we go again. Belittling artists you (personally) don't know or like. sigh. I've seen them several times live and i wish they toured more. They just are the most wonderful people. Accessable and open. Either you're too young to know, or to ignorant to understand how appreciated these two girls are in the music business. Still. Look it up. No it's not a question of hate or love, but of appreciation. Like, I don't like Celine Dion's music at all for example, but i don't hate her, or belittle her therefor. Peace though. Another thing, the music of Pirnce they perform likve as The Revolution is their own right. They were a big part of the creation of the tunes of their era. If you don't like it, that's ok. It's better to put your energy in something you like. Again, peace. -

- I completely agree with you. Personaly I think her album didn't suffer enough from the Tipper Gore stain, meaning, it would've gathered more attention imho. She indeed turned down the connection with Prince later on. Though she might've been locked in the Prince camp for another long time, with less or no results. Prince's songwriting for his proteges at the time was mediocre to poor, like i said. The songs recorded for her never finished second album for PP were not that memorable at all imho. She did a short tour as opening act for Jody Whatley, but somehow it's sad that Paisley Park didn't do more to promote these great choice of singles from that fantastic first album. Her first album should've been released through WB. Anyways. Though overhere in Europe she did well with that record. If you've never heard it, she did the vocals for a Ryuichi Sakamoto track ''You Do Me'', and that is absolutly great (as are the remixes) - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Do you think Andre's album and Dance Electric mixed?
I still wish Prince & the Revolution released that one
maybe a stand alone release with 4 the Tears In Your Eyes on one side and Dance Electric on the other
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
- Exactly !!! I've been thinking that for years ! The song doesn't match the album to my likes either. It's such a stunning pumpin' great Prince song. It certainly has that thunderous driving funk speed, that only belongs to Prince, and The Revolution. I can see Brownmark already slammin' the bass. And indeed ''4 The Tears In Your Eyes'' would be a great B-side. Always thought that too. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. yep...youre right...there is something behind it...its called "my opinion"...LOL...it takes a special kind of insecurity to think that because someone doesnt like something, or doesnt agree with something, that there has to be "something behind it"...i guess everyone is supposed to think like you do, or like what you like, huh?

We are talking the We Are the World event in the PMM forum, and it would have been a Rude Boy move for him to have released 4 the Tears In Your Eyes/Dance Electric seperately(along with it being on the WRTW album.
