Funny how many people seemed to quit Prince's early bands for religious reasons.

Michael Bland says he struggled w/it as well.

I heard him mention it when he was interviewd by Michael Dean. He gave the example of "Pussy Control". He said he looked around during a performance and saw that the first three rows were filled w/young women and felt bad about it.

Personally, I don't think "Pussy Control" is much of a problem if one understands the message.

I think it is camp but perhaps he thought the young women would take it literally, IDK.

I was at a Controversy gig in Virginia - right in fromt of the stage a few feet from Prince and Dez. I did see anything like that

Did you mean "didn´t see anything" or "did see something" ? Just asking.

I´m not saying that Mark is a liar but I doubt that people were literally having intercourse during concerts.

So cool that you got to see a Controvery concert.

Did you go to any 1999 and Purple Rain tour concerts as well?

I did mean didnt - no one was having sex at those shows. I saw 1999 tour twice: Norfolk Scope and Hampton Coliseum. I saw Purple Rain in Landover MD. These and the Controversy show (Zapp and The Time opened) at Hampton Coliseum were my first 4 Prince gigs

Song of female empowerment about a woman who goes to college and makes a ton of money instead of screwing around? I mean, if anything it's among Prince's more conservative songs!

Is it a coincidence that Kiss sounds like I Want To Break Free by Queen? It's shitty after someone passes to do shit like this. It's shitty when someone is alive to spill your guts to the press before addressing it with the person in question. I also think it's not a good look not to acknowledge someone's contribution small as it be. There are people who have gotten a credit by changing a word in the title of a song.

Prince evolved over time into a less competitive, 'fairer' person and those later bandmembers

reflect that. Mark Brown played w/the 'other' Prince.

It blew my teenage mind. We were close enough that we could almost touch Prince and Dez. My friend took a camera and we were standing right in front of Prince while snapping pics. We were in school showing them to people. I remembered how high the speaker were stacked and how I was nervous for Prince climbing up on them and jumping off in those ridiculous heels on the white boots. He was so wild to me - swinging on the firepole, unzipping his pants so you could see the bikinis, screaming like a banshee, playing real rock guitar that I had never heard live. I loved him ever since and I went to every Prince show that I could get to ever since. He never let me down.

Shows how Mark didn't think about it - he was making up his own reality and is only talking about it noe that Price is gone. I don't respect that. Dez did his book while Prince was alive. He is the only one from that band who I truly respect and believe.

I forgot to mention Wendy,Lisa, Jesse in the list of complainants.

I know that not every riff or groove qualifies for credit, but I get the real sense that

many of these musicians contributed quite a bit that was not properly acknowledged.

His bandmates are not properly acknowledged. Being part of the Prince world was a 24/7 commitment. People gave their lives, and contributed their riffs and meoldies. They should absolutely be given accolades.

Mark was Prince's best bass player. His sound was exciting. I appreciate him speaking freely here. I do find it weird that anyone would take issue with Prince's licentiousness in performance... I mean, he joined the band AFTER Dirty Mind.

The rest of what he describes, it sounds to me like Mark realized that Prince was just going to neg Mark forever. I understand why he quit. The thing abou Kiss makes total sense to me.

Is common for NDAs to be this tight in the music industry? I only ask because I don't understand why some were quiet for so long about not receiving credits and money. What would motivate a person to remain silent? I know getting caught up in legal redtape would.

Peggy McCreary addressed this. She said, "he took it back after he heard what Mazerati had done w/it". She also said that Prince kept quite bit of what they had contributed but over-dubbed with his voice. He did not have to make too many changes.

He could have talked about how they added so much to the song, or given them some credits or paid them under the table.

Every time I hear Kiss, I can't really enjoy it knowing the background.

Mazerati was an independent band who worked under the Paisley Park umbrella. They were likely afraid to rock the boat.

again, if they were able to make a song like kiss, then why didn't their career skyrocket after Prince? Seriously, Kiss is one the best songs he ever created, surely, they would've been able to recreate such a song, if they really added that much to it. I just don't believe it.

All you have to do is listen to the early early bootleg of Kiss with just Prince and his guitar to know it's the song, not what Mazerati did with it, that's great.

And they never would have had the kind of hit with it that Prince did - so thank goodness he took it back. (Even though I maintain to this day that the song is out of place on Parade.)

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Oh I don't know, you could go a lot of directions with that Prince demo, I think they did a lot with it. How far they would have went I don't know, it's certainly not finished in the Mazarati version we have and Prince's finishing touches make it genius rather than very good.
