I DO know that Jellybean was the ONE who discovered Mint Condition, but Jam & Lewis get all the Glory for it.

Maybe that’s part of why they have issues if it’s true?

Watch "Video Soul In Minneapolis", where Donnie Simpson interviews Jellybean and He talks about Mint Condition. He discovered Them & brought Them to Perspective. Even Produced a lot of Their Material. That was 1987, cause on the Show Jimmy Jam is mixing Morris Day's "Fishnet".

I'm not so sure if Jellybean discovered them but Mint Condition had already been doing showcases

in Minneapolis since 1986 so I'm quite sure Jam and Lewis were aware of them. The original lineup which included Roger Troutman's son tried to get record deals to no avail. Then 3 members including Roger's son quit and 3 other members came in and became the lineup we know today. Jam and Lewis had started their Perspective label and signed Sounds of Blackness first at Janet Jackson's

request. Then they signed Mint. Jam and Lewis had the label and the power. Jellybean just worked under their umbrella as well as Monte Moir and later Big Jim Wright. Jellybean and Mint produced their debut album but Mint took full control after that. Jellybean admitted that he got his feet wet in producing because everybody else in the Time were doing other things and he didn't want to get left out.

Thanks 4 chipping in. This is the story as I know it.

Concerning Jellybean, I know he went thu a "I hate my rich friends phase (referring 2 Prince and J&L)". And yeah, I'm pretty sure it was becuz of royalties. I don't know if it has been sorted out at this point in time.

Certainly possible because Larry Blackmon has damn near alienated all his
ex band members over royalties.
