So I read Morris’s book

Long story short, I’m noticing a pattern with folks who worked with Prince or who were friends with him. It’s always a love/hate situation. He’s so magnetic & is such a musical savant that who wouldn’t want to get in on that? But the other side of that is Prince could just be a difficult man. Imagine Sheldon on Big Bang but a musical genius instead of science. Sheldon is difficult to be around, to work with. & has a hard time showing people he actually likes them & wants them around. I don’t think Prince’s brain could turn the music down enough to be “good @ people”.

So now that I got Prince outta the way let’s talk about Morris. His story is so relatable. So imagine that guy in high school you wish you coulda been. But imagine getting paid just to be that guy. MD is a male fantasy. What I mean is men are just as susceptible to all the bs in magazines as women. But what about when that fantasy runs it’s coarse & the $ & women just ain’t enough anymore? This year I’ve had way too much time on my hands & sometimes I daydream about what if I had unlimited $. Obviously my fantasies are unique to me but reading his book really makes me question how much would that actually make me happy. I’m sure it would for a season. But & the end of the day will you really be happy?

I’ve read Maytes book & it’s such a similar story.

Most books allude Prince is an asshole. That's ok.

But yes... Morris Day is a Character.. Morris sang about it on his solo debut.

Look at VERY recent Morris interviews.. he is doing them out of his "Morris Day" Schtick.

My daughter is in the Art business and we were talking about Prince one day.

She said matter-of-factly that most successful artists have ego. This trait

gives them confidence to hold their creations in high regard and think others will too.

Pricne being difficult is a known fact. Purple Rain is based on that real dynamic to some extent, and you can see that side of Prince in interviews. Serious fans try to dig deeper, and look at him as a complex person who was also shy, and didn't suffer fools. He could be an a-hole but by all accounts he could also be generous, and suportive. The people who worked with him loved him but he left scars and confounded them. We also are only hearing a fraction of the stories. Nothing about Morris or Mayte's books really covered it all, you can tell that much.

Morris got lost in the character, and struggled with fame and addiction.

I heard an interview recently where one of the Melvoins (I think it was Wendy) said that The Time was a portrayal to Prince of his childhood self.

This is all you had to say? If you don't like Prince, what are you doing on a fan website bearing his name?

I think a lot of life long fans are comfortable admitting Prince could be a real nasty jerk sometimes. There’s nothing wrong with viewing him in a realistic human perspective. Over the decades it’s not just one or 2 people that let it slip. It’s a pattern of behavior. There was once a story on the forums years ago about how he humiliated a fan over her putting a cd she made as a gift on the stage. I took a season just not listening to his music or buying anything over that.

But @ the end of the day it’s ok. We can use his stories to better ourselves. He always said you don’t wanna meet your heroes because he understood they were flesh & blood, not deities. My wife & I read Mytes book together & I decided I wanted to do better. I got married fresh outta high school & thought he was what women wanted. But over the years I realized it’s all fantasy that he wanted to put on the screen. I knew I could do better for my wife. How many men take the time & think wow I can go beyond him? & I wanna be a better husband because that’s what Mayte would want. I was 13 when 7 came out & I became a fan. How happy would Prince & Mayte be if they knew a few guys listened to their story & grew up for their wife trying to do better because they were inspired by that book?

Prince wasn’t that fantasy you saw on the screen.

Agree with much of what you say.

I got the impression Prince wrestled with darker forces than most of us.

I wonder how the Revolution would have been different if Morris was the drummer in the Revolution and not Bobby.

You think calling Prince a dick is fair and varied? If we are talking about Morris Day's book, why is anyone name-calling Prince?

Whatever, it doesn't matter, I'll still have my own opinion. And I will still speak up for Prince whenever I want to.

Prince had a strong personality and was sometimes unyielding. Several words have been used to

describe this trait...perhaps 'dick' wasn't the best choice of words.
