Olivers House ~ Sheila E (the Glamorous Life)
I was just listening to the album, which I always felt flowed very well and had a strong cohesive vibe.
. And the things David Coleman is doing with his cello, very wickedly renaissance. little side bent sounds outside of the main chords. . And the 2nd line lol actually never knew what they were saying LOL . I heard this afternoon From the neighborhood slut, Claudine She said Oliver is leaving soon So we can make a scene We're gonna have fun, Oliver's house Make a lot of white noise Fun, Oliver's house

Love the album and Sheila but wouldn't be surprised if Jill did most of the singing throughout the entire project.

Sheila E's voice is very distinct, so you know she is singing lead.

It is a must in any Prince collection. I can always make a playlist that feels like a sound track with the 80s Prince/Protege albums

No she didn't, although she helped out on a few tracks. And Sheila was more than able to sing all those songs live on her solo tour and then the Purple Rain tour without the need of somebody singing behind a curtain. She's not the best singer in the world, but she's definitely no Apollonia or Vanity. Just like the white winged dove...

I was wondering that too for years but in Duane Tudahl's book he soled the mystery, it's "slut Glodean" (I htink tha'ts the spelling, i can't find my book right now). It was hte name of someone's wife, like George Clinton or someone like that.

Jill, Lisa and Susannah helped fill-out a lot of the vocals for Apollonia and Susan, and obviously Jill did Susan's vocals from behind the pink curtain during the Vanity 6 live sets (sidebar -- what about at the 20 Grand show? No pink curtain hiding the band, and Susan sounds markedly different in this performance of Drive Me Wild, though the audio quality is pretty rough), but Vanity did her own singing -- that definitely wasn't Jill on 3 x 2 = 6!

Just blows my mind about the level of songwriting and music making Prince was doing in that 1980-1984 timeframe!! Heck forever really!! But that 4 year window. The amount of activity is just blows my mind. Some people take a months, years, decades! Prince was writing and making music like crazy! And then doing side gigs for other artist. Wow. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

You haven't commented the subtle guitar noodling in the chorus. THIS is why Prince's guitar playing hits me every time. I never felt like 80's hairband shredding is my cup of tea. Prince's playing still sounds fresh, and that really is spectacular.
