peaks behind the hot pink Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 curtain

Do you have any photos of behind the curtain or what you can see through the curtain?

Any siluettes of Jill Jones singing behind the curtain?

"Jill entered into our picture, to sing back up for us. Prince painted her up to resemble Marilyn Monroe. He asked her to dye her hair and at first she hated it. She had an incredible voice, singing like a bird perched in a flower tree. Yet I don’t believe that Prince used her talents to their fullest capabilities. How could anyone blame him though, he handled so many projects at one time.
She stood behind the black laced curtain and sang..." -Vanity

I can see Jill Jones & I can see Jellybean's Drums! The Time was doin' Double Duty, and He was payin' Them like They WORKED @ Oak Tree! Yet They were whoopin' His Ass on most of that Tour! I know They did in Buffalo (2/24/1983)!! He even took Them off NYC & Los Angeles because of it. No wonder Jam & Lewis branched out!! Can U imagine if He HAD treated Them right? The Minneapolis Sound would be LARGER than LARGER THAN LIFE!!!!

Where where lol? Can you point out Jill?
I see possible Terry Lewis in what looks like a jump suite to the right of the drums

MAN, someone in the crew had to have taken photos of the band

I always wondered what would a VANITY 6 band have looked like and if thing would have worked smoother.
I agree the song set of the Time was more straight forward, transitioned from one song to the next. Prince's song set was more diverse(which is why in the long run it would encompass a deeper audience) but I wish the Time were allowed to do songs that ran that gamutt. I think They should/could have done Party UP, Uptown, etc songs like those. Rearrange, was for them too. And Bold Generation would have taken the Time to different space.

I would love know what the Time during the Parade era would have sounded like. I can see the Time in the more lounge silk pajamas look the Family had and that the stuff Jerome wore in Under the Cherry Moon.

The Time sound would be butchered with half hour long sax solos so it's good they didn't work during Parade

LOL

naw, but you think Prince would have a sax player join the band?

I could see the Time doing Movie Star; maybe Jerk Out (since Prince tried to revive that one in 1985)

Yeah, remember from 1985,1986 Prince had developed

obession with sax solos. i forgot the name of Sheila E album i think its from 1986 or 1987,produced by Prince

and i remember whole album was 1 non stop sax solo.so boring

so my guess is he would replace those creamy oberhaim synths with digitala yamaha dx7 and roland d50 (the sound of Dance Electric) and he would add Claire Fisher to the mix

I´m surprised to see that Prince would actually allow a bandmember to go on stage with an Adidas tracksuit. lol

Sure, he´s technically "behind" the stage but he´s still visible and looks more like a member of RunDMC than a Prince associate.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

No pictures of Prince during those sets either. I'd think some backstage photographer would have recognized that was worth documenting, and shot someting without Prince even being aware.

I agree the Parade era time would have been closer to The Family mixed with Sheila E. I can see Screams of Passion and Kiss becoming Time songs, but they wouldn't have worked as well. Also wonder if he would have added a female to the group. That would have actually solved his Jill problem. Then again Pandemonium was a pretty strong record, he might have just let them funk it up.

Yeah, the Times set flowed more easily for people.

Prince's set was more diverse

Vanity 6 set flowed like the Times as well

Honestly it really was for the best that they reconfigured the setlist for the 1999 tour itself; the original setlist just didn't hit as hard or showcase the girls at their best, even if it contained all their singles unlike the actual tour.

Original Setlist (trialed at 20 Grand, * denotes single release):
He’s So Dull*
Drive Me Wild*
Bite The Beat*
If A Girl Answers (Don’t Hang Up) (w/ Prince)
Nasty Girl*

Revised Setlist for 1999 Tour Opener:
Make-Up
Wet Dream
Drive Me Wild*
If A Girl Answers (Don’t Hang Up) (w/ Prince)
Nasty Girl*

What's cool, though, is that if Warner/the Estate would ever get off their asses with Vanity 6, they could release a nearly complete live album sourced from different soundboard recordings, as 3x2=6 is the only song I don't believe was ever performed live. Maybe a live version was recorded in a rehearsal session somewhere, though? 😆

I like that.

I think it would have been cool for the Time to have included Uptown or Party Up in their set

And Vanity 6 could have added a Prince song

man,I wish we could have gotten that second Vanity 6 album!! It would have been outrageous!!

I'm thinking that Side One could have included these three songs: "Sex Shooter","Vibrator" and "G-Spot"!! biggrin it could be a sexy concept album titled 'In Search Of The G-Spot",with a hilarious cover photo of the girls holding maps and magnifying glasses lol would have been funny and nasty at the same time.

That's a strong set of 3 songs right there. Add Sugar Walls and it's over

I LOVE the Time as their back up band, and it made sense that they did at the time. But It would have been sweet if V6 had their own backing band. Maybe not as prominent as the other bands(members) but more of a full experience would have given Vanity 6 more road time, performance appearances

I need to look up any talks about Jills space at that time

On the 1999 tour did she sing throught the whole set? I watched the DVD from the Deluxe and she only came on after the 1/2 way mark of the show

That version of Wet Dream!!!

That version of Make-Up!

That version of If A Girl Answers!!!

If Prince directed and composed that live set and sound, man then it's game over for me. I haven't heard this gritty, nasty fucking funk in a long time.
