9 years on, what do you think of "Condensate" by The Original 7ven/The Time?

Gave this a spin the other day and it's a lot better than I remembered!

Cadillac, Toast To The Party Girl, Strawberry Lake and Condensate are all solid jams. And #Trendin was good fun!

A real shame the brothers didn't tour the record! The fans deserved one last hurrah from the original band members.

It is a quality album. Just wished it could have got some hype. Throw in a couple of Prince songs with Prince making a cameo on one of the videos and having them tour with Prince and it would have been a fitting send-off for me. Prince was always a pat of the Time sound, so I wished he could have had an actual input into this. Maybe a guitar duel with Jesse and even Jellybean would have been COOL.

Thanks for reminding me of this album, haven't played it in years! I had to dig it up from the box of CD's under my bed as I found I didn't have it digitalised on my computer and I can't seem to find it on Tidal.

Now jamming to Strawberry Lake and into the groove immediately. Great production, it sounds awesome! Can't wait to listen to the rest of it. I love The Time and I always will, they were Prince's best satellite act if you ask me.

So C.O.O.L.!!! cool

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Its been that long already? WOW! There are a couple of songs that I really love and think stand up with anything they have ever done. I wish some of the other songs they did that got left off would have been put on there though. They were better than some of the tracks that ended up on the album.

I love the album. That and fDeluxe's Gaslight were such welcome music at the time. "Strawberry Lake" reminds me of Sly & the Family Stone, as well as (later) Janet's "Gon' B Alright" from Unbreakable, it even harkens to "1999" vocal swaps.

It's a strong record, and honestly the most "Time" album that there's ever been. It was seven of the most talented folks ever assembled in a band doing what they wanted, not playing and singing Prince songs. Everyone in that band has had success on their own, so for them to come together and do this - it was just amazing.

I still listen to it.

Although Prince had and/or wanted nothing 2 do w/this Project, it is the one that represents ALL facets of the Group; individually & collectively! It is a TREAT!!! Although I was fortunate 2 see Them live (11/5/2011 @ State Theater in Minneapolis), I wish there would have been a Nationwide Tour behind it. Apparently there was issues about Touring, which had Jesse 2 depart, Record & Tour w/D'Angelo & The Vanguard

That's the long and short of it. Paul & Susannah talked about how they both called Prince and asked to use The Family moniker, and Prince said no. He owned the copyright on it. He didn't own the copyright on those people performing together, but he owned the copyright on those people (or anyone) using that name. So, they just changed the name.

The Original 7ven was pretty clever since the album cover using the original font for The Time logo, using close to the same red, and the line "The Band Formerly Known As The Time." I can't imagine Prince didn't get a laugh from that. He wasn't going to stop people from being creative and musicians. He just didn't let them use the name, that's all.

There totally are, which would almost seem a glaring omission if they weren't there. Some are pretty obvious. They can't put an album out and not draw those nuances.

I've listened to and enjoyed this album for nine years and think it's the third best Time album after What Time Is It? and Pandemonium.

But shockingly, since I have had more free time during this pandemic, I only watched the accompanying documentary DVD for the first time a few weeks ago. eek It's great! I can't believe I let that disc collect dust for nine years before seeing it. Shame on me.

The DVD is a 90-minute documentary about the history of The Time told by The Original 7ven. It's this edition: https://www.discogs.com/T...se/5391415

Part of the documentary is solo interviews and part of it is all seven members sitting around a table trading stories from back in the day over dinner and drinks. I wished it was longer. If you like The Time then it's definitely worth seeing if not owning--maybe not for $100, but at an affordable price, I'd recommend double-dipping if you already have the CD.

Too bad Prince was such a weirdo when it came to The Family and The Time continuing on with the band names they popularized and earned... Condensate might have received its just deserts. Solid album.

All those are my favorite tracks too but I would add "Go Home To Yo Man" as the best song on the album

Such as?? First I've heard of this.

See Thru which they played at the first round of Vegas shows. Very cool tune. I also heard a few other songs over the phone from one of the guys in the band and that shit was funky as Hell and did not make the album. Unfortunatily it was a tease and I didn't get the titles. Very funky bass line on one though. Reminded me of Bootsy.

This one is right behind What Time Is It? as my favorite Time album. Prince was a dick for not letting them use the name (same with The Family).

According to this billboard article, The Time "recorded over two dozen songs" and Jam states that the remaining songs "will see the light of day" eek but this was way back in 2011 so I doubt it

To the best of my knowledge there are no studio versions of it floating around. The 2010/11 shows were great, especially if you had never seen the original line up. That being said, the 2008 shows blow those out of the water.

I've seen Morris Day & The Time many times--once even with Terry Lewis on second bass--but never seeing the original seven memebers play together live is a big regret.
