ChocolateBox3121 said: Neither Andre nor Stokely were ever the “leads” when playing with Prince. Andre was with the band for 2 years, and left before Prince completely changed the look and sound of the band in order to cross over. Stokely was never part of Prince’s band. * So, while they are both talented black male musicians, they cannot replace Prince as a regular lead for The Revolution. Perhaps they feel the same way, and it may be why they have done “one-off” shows and are not regularly on stage with the band.

I guess the idea is that they both have at one time been leads and can carry a group.

I don't think Stokely can carry the Revolution aside from a few songs where he really fits. His stage dmeanor is a little too goofy and karaoke too. Not sure about Andre but seeing Prince's spiritual brother on stage is pretty special and he'd be my first choice. Must trigger a lot of emotions for him though, and I can't picture him wanting to step in full time and lead the Revolution on a full tour. There's an interview where he talks about taking his kids (I think?) to LA shows and wanting them to see the greatest performer who ever lived... not his childhood friend, or his former bandmate...so I think Andre is an interesting guy. I hope they keep inviting him as much as possible though.

Wendy handled it right and if she looked reluctant, it's because she's had enough time away to see it from the fans perspective too and because she knew there would be criticism. I get some of it, people don't want anyone up front from the band, but if they just came out and played without engaging, that would be weird too. The approach that they're doing it to heal and be together with the fans and celebrate the musc and stories is very generous. Yeah they're not wearing the Paisley, or trying to pose like rock stars now, which is pretty amazing really that they don't feel the pressure to do that.

The show is sort of presented like they know they're giving imperfect renditions but with the original sounds and flavor only they can do. It made people happy as hell when I saw them.

I disagree I think Stokely could step in on more than a couple of songs. He has great stage presence. His vocal abilities is top notch! I wouldn't call him "goofy or karaoke". But now his solo career is taking off and he's in the studio with JJ&TL recording his new album. So I doubt he would be much available anymore.

But I do agree with U on Andre being a better fit as lead. He has a charismatic stage presence that can't be denied. I also feel he would have done it. But despite what someone else keeps saying. Andre WAS NOT asked to join The Revolution on tour.
