Thank you for explaining. I'm totally guilty of having not looked this one up, as by the time I got to this thread, there were already comments here saying that Apollonia was outing sexuality through the use of this term.

It's funny, because when I first read the term in the post copy on this thread, it crossed my mind that the term "sounded" more like a reference to gender category vs. sexuality category. Apparently, the term I should have looked up was this one. biggrin

Apologies, and thank you for explaining this.

As far as the post and privacy issues go, I'd say the same thing about gender that I did about sexuality. Not for someone else to reveal in this way.

I think people are interpreting it as a slam against her sexual preference, because clearly there isn't much to take seriously when it comes to questioning her gender.

Whelp, the feud made it to the gossip queen Wendy William's show. Pretty sure all the Wendy-Ninnies are gonna be googling who is Apollonia and Sheila E now. That's some good advertising for that "memoir" and Lemon cake single... wink Starting around 5.2 in the beginning. https://youtu.be/zgdjqQuAen4

Cool that you understand. Like you say, people already seemed to be going with what was, IMO, less what the term sounded like it would be getting at. That is, it sounded like it might descibe gender identification, while people were already going with sexuality identification.

eek surely Prince (if he really called her that) wasn’t suggesting that she is a hermaphrodite?!

i cant imagine Prince even saying that.. but who knows...and Sheila E has never appeared to be transgender, but then again im no expert on whats between Sheila E's thighs... maybe she is an anatomical anomaly..or maybe she just has a giant clitoris... oh lawd...i think i need some LEMONCAKE

biggrin Okay, that's funny!! Well, Hermaphrodites do exist, so anything is possible. I still take it as more to do with her sexuality (even though "heshe" wouldn't be the term to use for lesbian), because Sheila has always looked feminine. I will say though, I don't really recall any news or information about her dating life or relationships - other than what she's said about Prince back in the 80's.

I've heard "he/she" used as a derogatory term for people whose "straightness" was being questioned. mad I hope that Prince was never the kind of person to do that even in jest.

Just to be clear, I'm not referring to any actual person. I'm just adding to the discussion of gender terms.

I didn't grow up thinking about this stuff, but the younger generation has called my attention to these terms/descriptions.

A trans person (who identifies as a gender that is not their "born gender") may or may not take any hormones/have any anatomical alterations.

There are additional nontraditional gender identifications, including gender nonbinary.

But guessing that some of these descriptions are unlikely to be what the Facebook-posted term was meant to describe. Thinking generational differences here.

Thank you! I know where my savvy isn't. : ) I'm a naive suburban person, so my reaction to your post was due to looking up the phrase you used for these women on urban dictionary. I'm really sorry if that wasn't the best way to educate myself. My reaction to your post was based on on the definition I found. This definition made it sound like you were cheering on P's "pimpin" and hareming of these women which resulted in lingering silly wild competition and fighting among them even decades later. I apologize if the urban dictionary definition is not what you meant. If I'm in a situation like this again, I'll ask the writer (in this case, you) what the word means. To all, please understand. I'm not trying to piss anyone off by showing this definition. The mod snipped it before, but I don't know how to explain how I came to my conclusion other than post it here. I'm just trying to explain why I thought that your statement meant that Prince would love to be here now to see these women still competing that had formerly competed with lewd acts or akin behavior.

There were more definitions, including "easy" groupies, but I already fear I'm posting too much.

TOP DEFINITION
1. a female who likes cock
2. a female who likes giving head, bobbing up and down like a chicken
3. a dance move
not to be confused with "chickens," or chicks, which is not a deragatory term

https://www.urbandictiona...hickenhead

LOL!! Love it biggrin Always a crazy urban phrase for an otherwise stragightforward term smile

The "easy" groupies definition is interesting if you look at Prince's lyrics to one of his songs from the late 90's - I can't remember the name - but it goes "(something) is a groupie with a back stage pass...a brother be gettin' down here lately..."

something=duality
My favorite things of all the amazing things in Prince music are P's lyrics and P's voice. : )

But yeah...the definition threw me for a loop since I knew RJ thought that some female performers were already promoted too much via the "sex sells" route vs. focusing on what else they have to offer. So knowing that RJ admires P, it didn't make sense that he'd love the thought of P delighting in a legacy as a pimp/player that produced decades of traumatized, trashy, harlot-style competition. That didn't sound like RJ at all. But it was the internet definition that had me confused. I should have asked RJ about the word.

Maybe P just meant that Sheila has a masculine appearance. I've never seen her in person but I've seen pics where she appears to have a masculine more than feminine look. Either way, IMO that was the most cringeworthy thing in Apple's post. If she was going to rant, she should have stuck to her own thoughts & feelings and not dragged what P may or may not have said into it. I think some of her feelings, whether said in a thoughtless moment or not, are valid.

Exactly. It dosn t'matter what he meant or whether he really said it or not. It was inapprorpiate for her to "repeat" it.

Also, you can't apply 21st century "gender theory" thinking and terminology to what Prince may or may not have meant by an alleged insult in the 80s.

I have seen Sheila in person, and when she came down from the stage to go through the audience, she is very, very teeny in person, as to compared to what she appears on the stage.

I am 5'4" and I towered over her.

Sources I've seen say 5'2. Two inches isn't exactly towering (although if heels vs flats were involved). She was almost always eye to eye with Prince, considering they were both in heels.

Either way, he ability to milk a dead man's trademark is monumental.

The thing though and now I see Cat getting into the mix too, and I'm like Cat? Are u serious. But with Mayte she was married to him had one child and also had a miscarriage too, and covered him in his lies and stayed silent for a long time, she could have easily written a book in 2000. None of these women were married to him I get they were close and dated and probably slept with him and some claim they were going to be married to him but mayte was as was Manuela, who also by the way didn't write a book but for some reason has bonded with Mayte and no one from the early days. The trouble is all in that era, I mean when I have ever heard Andy Allo talk trash about Judith Hill or vice versa, I mean it's petty.

Have you watched any of the "Hollywood Exes" shows Mayte did back in 2013?? Have you seen any of her old tweets that contain "Priince bashing" remarks/jokes?? Do you know that she attempted to sell may of Prince's personal items (clothing, jewelry, etc) prior to his death? She also had her book all but finished when he died, which is why it was the first released after his death. She would not have even tried to release her book in 2000. as Prince would have had his legal team put a stop to it. Yeah nah, she is far from innocent in the "market your connection to Prince" realm.

prince could have pulled his legal team on all of these people for that matter, and we know he would in a second, I mean he told Paul Peterson i don't care if you are the voice of the Family I made the band and you can't use the name or I will sue you even if you mention my name. If the book Mayte wrote was ready I could have come earlier, a year after his death? I mean the average person in today's world forgot about princes death about two weeks to a month later, so she is Selling a book to fans of prince and nothing else so she probably could have made more releasing it two months or so after or taken her chances back in the day but prince I am sure had anyone in his life since contracts though he hated them sign contracts to not talk shit about him. Hollywood exes in 2013 honestly who cared about her or Prince at hat point she was married to him seventeen years before and to be honest I tell people Prince was married twice and they say really I didnt know he was married once, he was married in an era where no one cared about him but us loyals be honest. Tweets jokes I mean have you heard Morris day talk about how prince always short changed people didn't pay you for your time or work so let's be honest on it all. As for selling her personal items, that's on her, and if he gave them to her that's her stuff, shoot, Michael hutchences brother sold his personal stuff about three years after he died because he didn't get enough in the will, so people do that when they are in that position and just don't want something, I mean prince and Mayte May have appeared to be happy but who knows what went on or what the relationship was like.

First highlight: You do know that the recent tribute to Prince got such high ratings that they're airing it again on Saturday night, right?? The average person forgot about Prince's death two months after he died?? Nah, don't think so. Prince had many many many fans of all different levels (obsessed, hard core, heavy, medium, and light) around the world. At the very least, non-fans were listening to and reading reports about his death investigation, and becoming curious about his past and music. So, no - Mayte had her book first in line and ready to head off of the printing press.

*

Second highlight: The women of the Hollywood Ex's show were actually chosen because people WOULD care about who they were once married to, and would be looking for any gossip or dirt. They are not going to choose someone who would not bring in ratings. Mayte pulled out some of Prince's - not her own - outfits on that show for the women to gawk at and try on. She also had a nice "fake cry" moment when talking about the baby. She went to wipe a tear that was not there confused Prince may not have been as big in the 90's as he was in the 80's, but those of us who were around and old enough certainly knew his music and his relationships - um, OPRAH in 1996??? She devoted her entire one hour show to Prince - a tour of PP, an extensive interview, and his performance to promote Emancipation. He may not have been selling as many albums or packing in big stadiums, but most knew who he was and would be interested.

*

Third Highlight: Mayte was not selling personal items that Prince gave to her. Most of what she sold were HIS personal clothes which we've seen him wearing in photos or in concert. She was selling full outfits, including his shoes. She had (supposedly) his original ear cuffs , necklaces, etc. Prince is on video at some point after their divorce stating "a lot of my stuff gets stolen", which seemed to indicate he was recently missing several personal items.

*

I think much of that relationship was "for appearances" - at least in the last couple of years before the divorce - just my opinion. I think he was excited to be a Father though, and that is quite tragic.

Where is it implied he said this in the 80's? That woud be the equivalent of saying he was all up on her D. It just sounds like an 80's era insult. We don't even know if Prince made this comment to her directly, or if was a comment through the grapevine. What we do know is it's dumb and couldn't have been meant to take literally.

Both wives describe having his items in storage bins and trying to return them, or find out if he wanted them. Mayte describes itemizing the list of what was there with the idea he was willing to buy back some items. I guess it wasn't his storage and he wasn't paying the bills. Something being stolen in Prince speak doesn't mean literally stolen, just that he doesn't have them anymore, whether or not he agreed to it. But I think it's more the idea these personal items ended up in private collectors hands. He must have bought back all the lemon cake recipes on index cards and forgot the song lyric and love notes.
