What are the odds of ever seeing remastered or expanded releases of albums from Prince associated acts and protégés? I would love it if The Time's discography got the remaster treatment. also Vanity 6 and Appolonia 6 albums remastered and re-released. [Edited 3/10/20 17:53pm] | |

I think The Time would be the 1st logical choice, if it DID happen!! Followed by Sheila E., and then MAYBE Vanity6/Apollonia 6

Certainly not a sale and marketing expert, but I doubt many (or even any) will get a remaster based on the low sales most had. I'd personally love to see them remastered and expanded. Eg Vanity 6 album with sex shooter, vibrator, and whatever else is lying in the vault. I'd also like to see new compilations of songs written for others he worked with over the years, think The Steeles/ Jevetta Steele (open book, hold me, and how, colour, well done,superhero, ain't no place like u, skip 2 my u, wow - that's 9 tracks we already have, probably more in the vault), this could also apply to Sheena Easton, Jill Jones and George Clinton. maybe some EPs from Nona Gaye, Robin Power, Poet99 and Mazarati as well. Add to that completed And unreleased albums (The Rebels, The Time Corporate World, Ingrid Chavez the spirit child, MC Flash). I suspect most (maybe all) will never see the light of day. But it would be nice. 🍢 |

I think the most likely is a Vanity 6 reissue/remaster, then a remaster of The Time's discography (What Time is It? and Ice Cream Castles have already been reissued for RSD on vinyl), then maybe Sheila E's albums. Albums released under Warner are more likely to be re-released in my opinion. Prince: 1958-infinity. Thank U for everything. | |

It's all about the licensing and not about the sales, there are tons of albums that sold nothing that got some sort of re issue because they were licensed out, but Prince wouldn't license this stuff out when he was alive and I am sure there is no one looking at this in death. Rubellan is a company that has been doing some remasters with bands like ultravox and Berlin and some others and none of those were big sellers, ultravox never had a charted single in the states but got reissues on their first three albums. Oh I hadn't come across Rubellen before, SuperMegaBot is another one. Ultravox were big in the UK and Europe, enough to have small but dedicated fanbase who would buy reissues. Prince related artists would probably sell better than any of these bands, hopefully it'll happen eventually. | |

You are absolutely correct. But I think (not 100% sure but reasonably sure) Warner Bros owns the licensing of the protege albums, and I don't think Warners are likely to licence out anything related to prince to a small / independent type company. I'm also doubtful Warners Bros themselves would release them as they would expect a certain return on investment. Smaller labels can obviously run cheaper, hence need a much smaller return..... I truely do hope I'm wrong re remasters and/or even reissues. 🍢 |

Yeah they mos likely wont also because a lot of the proteges that i am sure people want, jill Jones, the Family etc were on Paisley from what I recall which was Prince's but went under, though Warners was issuing that stuff for him, I wonder who has the masters at this point. There is also an issue with who played on what a lot of these artists were never credited by Prince. Found out just recently that St Paul Peterson played on Jill Jones "For Love" track even he forgot, but he did say "thats how it was then, we were all jamming, and some was used and then all of a sudden your bass part that you played was missing" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |
