Morris Day - The Character

Been a while since I had heard this - surprisingly introspective track coming from Morris.

https://www.youtube.com/w...56ecAFKn4Y

A certain kind of mellow.

Very nice baseline and keys.
If I know the way Morris sings a prince song, Orince sang it very similarly, the breathiness etc.

Are you confused as to when this song was released or are you just trolling?

Are you trolling?

I've seen Morris twice, and his setlist doesnt sound this dated which is probably why he doesnt play the song live.

His solo stuff has a very 80s sound, you're right. But it's the 80s done right imo.

Because it was the 80s.

It really sound ridiculous when people judge the past music under a present day microscope.

At the time of its inception, it sounded current.

@I said... - Of course it sounds "dated". It is no longer 1985.

This song was released in 1985. It's from his Colour of Success' solo album.

I understand where you coming from on this particular song. The song was the 3rd single from his debut album.

In 1985 it was cool but now it sounds lazy. It's simply a case of a song that didn't age well. It happens with certain songs. In contrast you listen to Oak Tree and it still sounds great today. I was listening to Spotify the other day and Yo Love came on from the Daydreaming album and I wasn't feeling it but I still dig Fishnet.

I love The Character. And always have. I don't think it sounds dated, i just think(in hindsight) it doesn't really go anywhere. Probably the best part is the ending with the drums(especially), that synthesizer bit, and that "scared of love" part(what is that, a hook, or what?). Those always were the highlights to me.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
