Henderson (‘That ain’t Lake Minnetonka’), Minnesota to unveil Prince statue - June 7, 2020

Prince-celebration-Henderson-2020.jpg

“That ain’t Lake Minnetonka,” Prince famously said to Apollonia after she “purified herself” in Purple Rain. He wasn’t lying: it was a section of the Minnesota River in the small town of Henderson, about 50 miles southwest of Minneapolis.

Is this the first look at the statue?

1999 Rave era striking a g-chord on the Cloud?

...contemporary statues are always so... awkward.

I wish they'd thought of a monument rather than a replica of one of his looks.

Yes right, Vannormal, they could have just made a clear crystal or special plastic Love Symbol with lights inside of it that would change color all day and all thru the nite.

At least he is getting a statue and one that does indeed look like him. Can't we just celebrate that?

If this image is going to be the statue...

then i don't like it.

How worse can things get. Poor Prince...

Sure the guy can be celebrated, but not with kitsch.

-

There are far better solutions to 'celebrate' the guy either in stone or bronze

but not an 'image'.

It's outdated and often/mostly really badly done.

Seen Freddie Mercury's?

Seen Jacques Brel's ?

Seen Michael Jackson's ?

etc

We already have a monument to Prince- it's called Paisley Park.

Nothing wrong with another Prince monument. If it was up to me there'd be one on every street corner next to a Starbucks. biggrin

Hopefully this is procured by a PROPER dove release that attends locally to their safe return and none of that bullshit wedding (kill and alienate the home raised doves doves into the wild) and none of that "let's celebrate the 4th of Amerkkuh by exploding FIREWORKS near a dove release (concussive explosions/night time releases etc when the birds are nearly blind)

Jesus, God almighty and in the name of PRINCE who had well maintained doves. ... please let the dove and or pigeon handler (*they're essentially the same bird with variances) be LEGITIMATE!
