Mayte's book explains this quite well.

And what does she say? Does she say anything about Larry Graham, aka "Old Sheep in Wolf's Clothing"! eek mad lol biggrin

If I remember correctly, she wasn't very fond of him. lol I don't remember exactly what she said about him though.

I imagine she didn't appreciate Larry coming on to the scene and dominating Prince's time and mind. Although, it would seem Prnice was searching for something else in his life at that time. He was a big boy, and knew how to make his own decisions. I think he was unhappy for a long time - even before the death of his Son. He was rushed to the hospital April (21st I think?) 1996, because he took too many pills, and they had to pump his stomach. Mayte discussed this in detail on an audio interview. If that date is correct it is pretty unbelieveable and points to such a heavy coincidence that it would seem it must be more than just that.

The reports of the overdose back then dated it April or February 1997,so a few months after his son died. I even think someone posted them on the forum a while back.

No, Mayte stated, in the interview that I listened to - that Prince overdosed April of 1996. She stated it was just a couple of months into their marriage, and she couldn't understand what was going on, because it was supposed to be a very happy time in their lives.

I updated my comment, you can look it up. Why would the report about it be a whole year later?

Here is the video where Mayte confirms Prince had to have his stomach pumped shortly after their 1996 marriage because of taking too much aspirin with wine. Then she states there was another time when he asked her to flush stronger pills down the toilet for him.

*

She talks about his relationship with his Father as a possible cause, but I do not think that was the case. Prince had an "on/off" relationship with his Dad from the time he was very young. That was just the nature of that dynamic.

Okay, if it wasn't the relationship with his father, or the death of his child, then what would've been the reason for his overdose?

Not saying that the thing with his father is 100% the reason it happened, but you do know that an on/off thing with people you love (especially your parents) can lead to depression and all the other ugly stuff?

But I'm I interested in what you think was going on inside his head

The overdose with the aspirin and wine happened only two months after his wedding, so they had no idea at that time that the baby had serious birth defects and would not make it. It should have been one of the happiest times in his life, but clearly he was in a very bad emotional place. She did not specify the time frame of when he asked her to flush the other stronger pills.

*

I don't know what specifically would have caused that kind of emotional downturn for him, but he was deep into his battle with WB at that time, and also writing many songs about lost love - Right Back Here In My Arms, Die, Journey To The Center Of Your Heart, Van Gogh, Stone, In This Bed I Scream, covering I Can't Make U Love Me, and pulling Excuse Me Is This Goodbye out of the Vault. If you believe that he expressed his life and feelings in his songs then all of those would suggest he was missing someone who had left his life.

*

No one knows but Prince of course, but I always listen to his songs and factor in when they were recorded to get a sense of what might have been happening in his life.

Hi TWD! I know you're not asking me...jmho I think it was the relationship with his father & having a child on the way. I do not believe it was an international OD, more like he did too much. I doubt this was the first time something like this has happened nor the first time he'd used drugs/drank. I believe there were isolated times over the years when he would use/abuse drugs/alcohol. This does not make him a bad person or less of a genius; it makes him human.
I also believe LG took advantage of him, intentionally or not.
