The part about Prince kicking him out of his house was pretty jarring for some reason. The part about Prince sharing and not wanting to share women with him was funny, but still jarring.

I never knew Morris was on drugs. So, that's weird to me. It was interesting to see that Prince was pimping it with the multiple women. I always thought he would but I had never had any indication, from an article or whatever women that slept with him that he was into orgies or whatever.(I never did take Zannalee to heart. No woman had ever confirmed it.)

Interesting book so far. I'm almost half done!

Zannalee was not about an orgy - just a "three-way" between him, his girlfriend and her sister. "She had a sister named "Fendi"....if you know the history it's not too hard to convert the names "Zannalee" and "Fendi" biggrin Of course, it could have been completely fabricated by Prince just to keep people questioning or guessing.

So, I guess Zannalee is Vanity. It's not Nandy or Maya, the twins. I guess it's not Robia or Lori Elle. Is 'Fendi' Susan Moonsie? eek

Um, no. "Zannalee" = SuZANNAH and her twin sister "Fendi" = Wendy. biggrin
*
Yes, I know Wendy is gay, however if you listen to the lyrics it makes sense - "to get 'em in the mood I give 'em some cherry wine. Then we watch a movie - one of them dirty kind. Then we play some pool and they watch me "bank" (get) the "6 and the 9. Watch me bank it baby."
*
Prince was SO clever with his play on words smile In the unreleased video for this song he has two curly haired twins playing "Zannalee" and "Fendi".

And Dinner with Delores was a clear reference to Vanity.

All that being said, of course Prince had orgies before. Come on. He wrote songs about it, why wouldn't it be true.

Oh Lawdy.

Here we go again with the Susannah stanning on a thread about Morris' and not a thread about her.

Are you Susannah??

Or a relative of hers??

Seriously, why do you always find a why to insert Susannah into almost every song by P even years after he no longer had her on his mind? P only had her on his mind when he made her sign a promissory note to pay back the money he lent to her?

Oh Whatever ISLIJAG - and what are YOU doing with this thread by posting your snide comments about my discussion with someone else?? Why are you responding to my post that had nothing to do with you? I would say you are 100% de-railing the thread in order to start another one of your attacks. Pathetic.

LoveGalore started the back and forth about the song Zannalee. CLEARLY, you don't know the history. Prince was still in contact with her throughout the 90's. He recorded that song in 1993, and then put it on Chaos & Disorder.

*

I could post the note he wrote to her in the mid-90's telling her he loved her and to please write to him, but that would just add your derailment.

Read the book and enjoyed it. I actually liked Morris's thoughts on what his brother would say.

When you know someone that long, you know their reactions.

One thing that is plainly clear, he LOVED Prince and he misses him dearly.

How is it love to write a book after Prince has died which accuses him of using Grand Central demos to get signed to Warner Bros.? And what would the real Prince say? Prince worked with Chris Moon for almost a year before even meeting Owen Husney, then David Z (Rivkin), Bobby Z's brother, worked with him at Sound 80 making the demos that were shopped to the record companies / got him signed to Warners.

Per Nilsen's 'Dance Music Sex Romance, Prince: The First Decade', p. 24-33

"As it turned out, Prince's deal with (Chris) Moon effectively marked the end of Champagne.... Prince had to leave his guitar and amplifier to LaVonne Daughterty (Morris' mother) when he parted ways with Champagne. 'I was there when Prince came home without his Stratocaster', Charles recalls. 'He was so mad! It really hurt because he didn't have any instruments when LaVonne took his guitar. It was really ugly. Chris Moon hooked him up with some gear.' Champagne tried to continue without Prince, but called it quits after only a few months."

"Prince worked tirelessly around the clock in Moon's studio, often staying the entire weekend... One of the first songs Prince composed by himself, both lyrics and music, was "Baby", which materialised on 'For You' in 1978" "In addition to the tracks Prince committed to tape at Moon's studio, he recorded many songs and musical ideas on a simple cassette recorder; his song writing was already prolific.

"In the meantime, Moon played Prince's demo tape to Owen Husney, who ran The Ad Company, an advertising agency in Minneapolis... Husney called Prince in New York to express his interest in becoming his manager. 'He was at his sister's house. He was really quiet...."

"The next step was to contact David Rivkin and get him to help Prince put together a new demo at Sound 80 in Minneapolis where Rivkin was now working. Husney felt the songs Prince had recorded at Moonsound 'weren't by any means ready for presentation to a company, albeit they showed the talent.'

"Prince and Rivkin spent the entire winter of 1976-77 at Sound 80, re-recording some of the Moonsound songs.

"For the demo tape, Prince and Husney chose 'Baby' and 'Soft and Wet'... The Sound 80 sessions were important in shaping Prince's future musical style since it was the first time he worked with synthesizers, including an Oberheim 4-Voice...

"Husney and Levinson put together a press kit in order to promote Prince to the record companies."

Owen Husney donated the press kit / demo to the Minnesota Historical Society:

Right. This has all been discussed and confirmed with both Chris Moon and Owen Husney - also Bobby Z, who was an errand boy for Chris Moon where he got to know Prince from seeing him at Moon’s studio all the time. He talked about it during his interview with Questlove.

My quick take:
- Prince lived a very clean life in terms of drugs and alcohol. I believe that Morris was close enough to know.
- Morris and Prince were like brothers.
- Prince would turn on people quickly and took advantage of people at times.
- I am very intrigued by the work Prince and Morris did at Paisley during the Musicology era.
- Morris had more contribution to The Time and some of the songs on Prince’s albums than we thought.
- I would kill to hear any recording by Grand Central Station.
- Prince knew he did not have much time.

Read it. To each it's own for the ones that thought this was a great book. He didn't reveal anything significant. I didn't really learn nothing new except for how low he sunk in drugs, and even the details on that was vague. The whole whole book was written in vague details. The part where Prince threw him out of his house was heartbreaking. Other than that, it was a forgettable book. I doubt anyone is gonna be talking about or quoting from this book in a few months.

Long review contrasting The Beautiful Ones with Morris Day's On Time in Belgian newspaper De Morgen today (in Dutch). In the newspaper there is a big photo on the front page of the newspaper, and the review takes up the first 1.5 page of the second section of the newspaper. (I'll post photos later.)

Seems as though De Morgen does not have too much praise for Morris’s book. Although, it’s understandable that most would prefer Prince’s, so not really fair to compare the two.
