genuinely dislike this man! Appreciate he wasn't a suck up / yes man BUT fuck me associates like him, his brother , Wendy etc PISS ME OFF so much! Know this, when you are a leader you have to be a bit of a asshole! - creatives souls with ambition can be ruthless & need to be controlled - look at James Brown as a prime example.
Eric has a great sound but his pissy attitude since P's passing makes me sick!

Oh where did you hear any of that in this interview? Why can't people just focus on what is presented without dragging the whole world into a thread? This isn't about any other associate.
And I TOTALLY disagree that being a leader means you have to be a little bit of an asshole.
ASSHOLE RUTHLESS CONTROLLING
those are not good traits
I'm going to quote you in another thread about being an artist

we're allowed opinions right? Eric has a more than well documented track record of snide ass comments about Prince.
As for the leadership thing that's a whole different debate & probaly more useful on linked-in rather than here! Needless to say that I never had too much of an issue with P being the way he was...he kept his house in order !

Opinions based on what is presented. What does your hatred for Wendy have to do with this.
. How can you rationally listen to what Eric said if you genuinely dislike him so much. PISS YOU OFF so much? Eric said absolutely nothiong about Prince negatively and he definately did not have a pissy attitude.
. Did you actually LISTEN to the video? If you genuinely dislike Eric, why even listen to the video? Or did you post just because you dislike him so much.
.
He talked extensively about that 1989 shift and the change from the pre 1986 band/associate agreements vs the post 1986 contractual agreements that came about with the NPG. There is some good fill in the blank business aspects of things that were not clearly known.

Is this the 4-part interview with Prince Podcast or a new one? The link/info on your first post didn’t show on my screen. * Eric has always been a straight-up, no-nonsense, “tell it like it is” guy just like his Brother. Prince obviously liked him and appreciated his talent or he would not have been around for so many years. I listened to the full interview he did with Prince Podcast and found nothing he said offensive or nasty toward Prince. He’s said numerous times that he was grateful to him for the experience and that it opened doors for him. * I’m always amused by folks here - who weren’t there and never knew Prince personally, yet they somehow know more about “life with Prince” than Eric, Wendy, Lisa, etc. who spent everyday with him for many years.
Eric and Alan have been being acerbic about Prince for years.
I've never been particularly fond of either of their contributions to Prince's career, although obviously Eric's have more merit.
Eric Leeds was easily my least favourite aspect of the ONA gigs. Maceo Parker pisses all over him. Eric clearly thinks very highly of himself though and like his brother Alan, holds his own opinions in very high esteem.

I think in fairness can anyone name 1 thing out side of Prince related work that he has created / contributed to? He will always be a Prince sideman as much as he may hate that.
Sorry, but I just do like him or Alan for reasons already stated.
I like Alan and Eric for the reasons you dislike them; they have their own opinions about how things should work and weren't/aren't afraid to voice them. I don't always agree with their opinions but I appreciate the honesty more than some of the yes-men who just come across as personality vacuums doing their best Prince impression in every interview I always found it hilarious how little time Eric actually had for Prince's pop songs.

totally see your point BUT it's more HOW he says it... I used to employ someone like that....& took THE greatest pleasure in firing his ass! The thing is pissy people like that are both ungrateful & also be highly disruptive to the team.

I agree. Eric is a Jazz musician - not a “pop” musician. I have no doubt that he was often annoyed at having to do all of the pop theatrics on stage during the SOTT and LoveSexy tours. He’s into serious Jazz more than funk and pop. No doubt the reason Prince was doing the Madhouse records with him, but even they were not really serious Jazz records, as Eric has stated. * I really like Alan’s forthright interviews as well, and he has been a sought-after resource for Biographers and Journalists. He was with Prince for 10 years - his most lucrative time, so I would say he is a valued resource. He was running the show for Prince - hired by WB to make sure things ran smoothly in MN and on the tours.

Alan handled Prince’s affairs for 10 years - the 10 busiest and most lucrative years. So, I’d say he was a pretty important piece of the Paisley puzzle. * Of course Maceo outshined Eric on ONA - he was an idol of Eric’s as well, and Eric also stated that he never understood why Prince didn’t just Hire him back in 1985. I’m sure Prince had Eric on ONA as backup and/or to give him the opportunity to play on stage with Maceo, which I’m sure was a thrill for him. I really like Eric’s sound, and Prince clearly did as well, or he would not have been in the camp for so long.

Hey, if Prince took the greatest pleasure in firing them then more power to him. I dont see them as ungrateful, just opinionated. The closest I've seen to ungrateful might have been Jellybean in a few interviews, but even he tempered the worst things with praise.
