Women had a major uphill battle, especially in the entertainment industry, to be taken seriously and not objectified. The way the women were portrayed in PR was very much how it was - even though Prince tried to deny that. It seems his Dad also did not provide a good example of how to treat women. * Lisa had it better than Gayle though. At least she didn’t get his tongue down her throat on stage...although some women may have been okay with that * I loved the interview. Most of it I’d already read about, but I had never heard the story about Prince and Morris making her go lingerie shopping and having to model the outfits for them. Ugghhh!!! SOOOO sexist * I love this guy’s interview style - he takes it slow and allows enough time for more detailed answers. He let Lisa stretch out and take her time. Only wish he would have asked more questions about the “magic trio” recordings of Power Fantastic and Sometimes It Snows In April, and the incident that caused her and Wendy to quit prior to the Parade tour.

He wanted to be loved but never trusted anyone enough to have a truly loving relationship. Always had that wall up. Very sad.

Nothing new. He also showcased female musicians throughout his career from the beginning, so say what you want about his philandering personal ways, but he respected women on a professional level.

I'm not referring to him philandering I'm referring to him saying sexist remarks like the ones lisa mentions in this interview

I winder how many of them, especially in earlier years, did not have a personal /sexual relationship with him (except Wendy and Lisa of course)?

yes , it bothered me the way he fired Lisa and Wendy talking about crotchless panties etc and how humiliated Lisa must have felt shopping for lingerie with Prince and Morris..would he have gotten away with making the guys wear gstrings as he wore

Andre Cymone at times dressed just as provocative as Prince(r.i.p.) with sometimes no underwear.
And Prince(r.i.p.) was right about the "crotchless panties" the next band after The Revolution Sheila E's wardrobe left little to the imagination. Cat's body was on display on the SOTT & Lovesexy tours. So he did go in a more sexually appealing direction & it WORKED!
BTW: I still LOVE Lisa & she will ALWAYS remain my favorite Revolution member. Because she comes off as very humble and not a chatterbox. Wendy’s outgoing and assertive personality was part of her appeal to Prince - along with her beautiful guitar playing. Being comfortable speaking out does not equate to being a chatterbox, especially when what you have to say is smart and interesting. To me, a “chatterbox” is someone who continuously talks but communicates nonsense or nothing of interest. * Yes, no doubt Prince added the “hoochie-mama” outfits and sexual scenarios on SOTT and LoveSexy tours, and he knew Wendy and Lisa would never have gone for that. However, they could have been part of the band without playing the sexual roles. Lisa stated that he decided “I have these new friends and they are just as funky and cool”, so he cleared house and started over (except for Matt). Even though Prince had Cat and Sheila doing the “sex pot” thing on stage I think Cat’s dance moves and stage presence gave her a “tougher” image, and Sheila’s drumming made it more acceptable - like, yeah I’m wearing these skimpy outfits, but I’m also a bad-ass drummer. * It’s interesting that Cat’s SOTT peach dress was originally made for Susannah. Guessing he was going to try to fit her in as well before she left.

I think Prince struggled in his younger years with how he treated both men & women. I think it stemmed from his childhood and subconsciously he was protecting his own feelings. Seemed he struggled with relationships period but he came a long way as he matured as we all do.

Yes, I had mentioned this in an earlier post - that early childhood family dynamic and environment can create emotional baggage that affects future relationships of any kind. This was most likely the case with Prince. * No doubt as he matured and grew emotionally he was able to improve some things, but I don’t think his “wall” ever fully came down - even though he sang about that in his song “Revelation” -“there’s a door you can walk through where there used to be a wall..”. Eye no!'
U thoroughly & repeatedly told me this AGAIN, a few months ago in ANOTHER thread. I do agree with what U said. But I've always preferred Lisa's quiet demeanor, haunting piano chords, sexy background vocals & sarcastic personality. Plus the way she blew her hair. I really get her. Even at his worst he couldn't have been so bad, and maybe people saw through it, because his former associates still speak so highly of him. 💜

Such a heartfelt and sad song. I think it follows his pattern of sharing his heart and soul in his music, but not in life situations. * It seems he had good days and bad days in his personal life. Friends, girlfriends and associates have said that they never knew which “guy” they were going get on a day to day basis. This has been a pretty consistent description throughout the years.

I'll probably get snipped for off topic but along the same lines and working for the Dept of Social Services...I believe we could change the world with how we treat children. So many people treat children as if they don't have feelings or their feelings don't matter... when in truth we should be boosting their confidence, being examples of love and how to treat others. If you want to make a difference... give your time and love to a child. [Edited 5/17/19 11:05am]

Okay, fair enough, but I figured your use of the word "chatterbox" - which you've also used before - was again a dig toward Wendy, so I was just adding my 2 cents about how that term is seen as quite negative in general. I really like her enthusiasm, especially when talking about music and her time with Prince. * I love Lisa. I love Wendy. I love their music together and I loved them as a couple. It was a good mix and balance. Interestingly, if you watch some of the interviews they did in 1989/1990 on YT, Lisa talks much more than Wendy

You are a THOUSAND percent correct on your statement above. I work with elementary age kids, and it has become very easy to recognize which ones have a positive, loving and nurturing environment at home, and which ones do not. * Birth to age 5 yrs is a crucial time, and a dysfunctional, unloving and/or abusive environment can have negative affects which last a lifetime.
