Ingrid Chavez May 19, 1992

What Albums sound similar to the Ingrid Chavez May 19, 1992 album?

Or indeed what songs are similar to hippy blood? Which is my favourite.

Every five years or so I feel like I go heavy into this album and song and I am there right now. Would like some stuff to add in to the mix and does not need to be prince related.

Also - this was a 1991 release. Does anyone know the story behind the name?

I like the dreamy vocals and upbeat vibe, I always think this song sounds like it would look like sunshine through a stained glass window, with some incense burning.

I believe the date is when she married David Sylvian.

For me,this album was a pleasant surprise. The music is dreamy, hypnotic and moody.Ingrid's poetry is cleverly written.I liked this album more than I expected to.

It's a year to the day on which the cover photograph was taken.

Obviously Madonna's Justify My Love that she co-wrote, and Erotica which was inspired by the former.

.

Enigma's early releases (IDK about later releases and what they sounded like) technically pre-dated Ingrid's album and sounded very much the same musically.

.

It could be argued that conceptually if not in sound, some trip-hop, typically early Massive Attack, Tricky or Laika among others, made use of spoken word and was not entirely unrelated to Ingrid's work. I would advise mostly Massive Attack's Blue Lines (1991) album, Laika's awesome Good Looking Blues album from 2000 and pretty much everything Tricky released between 1995 and 1999, but really those artists have awesome discographies and nearly everything they did deserves to be discovered.

.

Then again there are other spoken words artists. Among my favorites spoken word poetry records are Pure (1994) and Dead Inside (1996) by The Golden Palominos (featuring Lori Carson and Nicole Blackman on vocals respectively), Bill Laswell's City Of Light from 1997 (Lori Carson again), and you definitely wanna hear the ever magical Ursula Rucker, whose masterpiece probably is Silver Or Lead (2003) but honestly all her albums are worth a listen if only for her stunning lyrics and her unique flow.

.

There are a couple of really lovely spoken word poetry tracks on Ryuichi Sakamoto's Sweet Revenge (1994), too (the whole album is a gem anyway, and Ingrid can also be heard on one track from his 1991 album Heartbeats).

.

Nothing exactly like Ingrid but some shared DNA in all of this. And of course Ingrid herself released more music throughout her career, some with David Sylvian (some released and some leaked), a solo album in 2010 and another one as Black Eskimo circa 2013 IIRC. Another unreleased project she had at the same time she was working with Prince is also circulating, something called Sky Fish, but I haven't heard it in 15 years and don't remember at all how it sounds.
