Shelby J.’s pop up store in Minneapolis selling shirts with Prince’s love symbol I saw on social media that Shelby J. had a pop up store in Minneapolis (I think it was at the Capri). One thing I noticed is she was selling t-shirts where on one side was her logo and on the other was Prince’s love symbol. They’re like the image below except the shirt is white and Shelby’s logo is golden and Prince’s love symbol is purple, and it doesn’t say I miss you Prince. I’m going to assume (perhaps naïvely) that she’s gotten approval from the estate and is paying proper royalties? Even still I think it’s a thumbs down for me. I didn’t like it when Sheila E. plastered the love symbol all over and I kind of feel the same way here too. Paisley Park is in your heart

I think that she used his symbol on the beaded bracelets she was selling too. It was on a charm next to one with her symbol/logo iirc.Maybe she sought permission to use his symbol prior to that. [Edited 4/27/19 17:12pm]

I noticed that too and looked online to see if they were available on her website http://shelbyjmusic.com/ (down). I would imagine it'll end up similar to when Sheila E did similar and pretty soon it was all 50% off, unless she's somehow worked it out with the estate. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Why do some feel entitled to use his symbol to sell their shit?

Right. If they could not use it to sell their items prior to his death they should not be using it now. There is just something "wrong" about it even if they've worked out a deal with the Estate. On the other hand, I guess it can be looked at as a conribution toward keeping his memory/persona alive. However, she's using the symbol on to promote her items. I don't know...I'm torn.

Well, I'm not torn at all. I think it's simple: Sell Prince items with HIS symbol and your items with YOUR symbol. And if you can't sell anything without his symbol or name on it, maybe you should stop and really think about the WHY. They had and still have plenty of time to establish their own identity.

They think no one is watching and they want to make a fast buck.

I saw that she posted that photo on her FB page on the 21st along with "I miss you Prince" I had thought that was just in tribute and wasn't aware it was an actual tee she is selling. She went live earlier talking about her pop up shop for her merch. She was wearing a black hoodie with her "Supernova" logo in gold and his Symbol on the other side in purple. I would think she would have had to get permission to use the Symbol so blatantly. I love Shelby but that makes me wonder.

Here’s an example of the shirts she’s selling in her pop-up shop. I’m a little confused because who would want a T-shirt with Prince’s love symbol logo and Shelby J.’s logo? Only the most die hard Shelby J. fan will know what her logo looks like and it has nothing to do with Prince’s love symbol so why put them together? Her shop was also selling these shirts which I’m assuming were sold at NPG shows? Paisley Park is in your heart

I don’t see them on her website so maybe it’s something she did just for Celebration week. I still think it’s wrong. Paisley Park is in your heart

If anything, that should be tied to The Family/fDeluxe not her. * I agree that no associate should be using the symbol to sell their own merchandise.

Yes, since she was also using his Symbol on her bracelets she made available in I believe 2017,I would think she would have had to receive permission prior to then. The NC2P shirts are being sold on the website owned by her management co that she linked to on her FB but the new shirts aren't on there yet. Maybe it was just for the Celebration.

Shelby J was very close to Prince(r.i.p.) they use to go shopping together on Melrose a very popular street in Hollywood. "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

I remember her talking about that. She was at the P&M Gala Event at Paisley too I believe. A lady she spoke with on one of her recent Shelby's Lives on FB told her she saw her running around Paisley with Prince the night of one of the shows so seems they were still close.

Prince adored Shelby and took her as his special date to the 20T3N BET Awards.

About a year ago, Shelby was a part of a tribute show here in Australia called "Nothing Compares 2 Prince."
Can't recall there being any T Shirts sold with that logo/design, but that's probably why.
For the record, ST PAUL PETERSON was a part of this gig as well.

I loved that he did that! They looked like they had such a great relationship. The lady who told Shelby she saw her with Prince at Paisley said they were running around laughing and acting like kids lol. She also said that Prince came up to her briefly and said hi and asked if she liked his house. The lady said she told him that she did and he asked if she would be back and she told him she would but sadly couldn't make it to the last party.

I was just about to post a similar comment. Most know that he cared for Shelby and wanted her to succeed, however, I'm sure that did not include using his symbol for her profit.

What a sweet but sad story! Prince(r.i.p.) actually did have people that really cared about him. Too bad he couldn't let his guard down & get the help he needed before it was too late . That's all that really matters. Instead of crucifying someone who was very close to him for using a damn symbol on a t-shirt!
Btw not aimed at U "That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

He had MANY people who truly cared for him during all periods of his life with whom he also did not let down his guard , however most are not using his symbol to sell their merchandise....

Yes,she was an older lady who said she had loved him from the beginning so I'm sure that meant the world to her for him to talk with her a few minutes. She said that he grabbed Shelby by the hand and took off with her and she then laughed and said she remembered. It was sweet to imagine that and to hear that he seemed in such good spirits that night. I agree. I wish he could have been able to do that too.

Eh, we know Shelby's been sick. Prince helped out his associates. He's not here. The Estate's in probate. Medical bills don't wait. Seems reasonable to me, he's helping a friend. Y'all in the way. [Edited 4/29/19 9:35am] Time keeps on slipping into the future...

You know I was thinking that as well after I posted my initial thoughts. They (those who believe in a Heaven) say that when you are "resting in paradise" all is forgiven and there is only love around. I agree - he's up there hoping the best for all, and probably helping in his own way. *

The crime is not that she used the symbol. The real crime is that she used the symbol and made a butt ugly t-shirt. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That was the first Celebration I believe and I think Elisa was one the only associate to call her out. Anyway I don’t have a problem with that. Most likely her initial fan base will be Prince fans. Plus as far as I know she wasn’t selling anything at Paisley Park. This pop up store was offsite too. And if she was just selling her own stuff without Prince’s logo I’d have no issue with it.
