I think Jesse managed to get out of Prince´s shadow very early in his career and his own albums went gold in the mid 80s. He was a respected artist in his own right and much more than just a protegé act. I loved his music back then and think he´s contributed a lot to the Minneapolis Sound but it´s frustrating to see that he just can´t let go of old grievances. He doesn´t really have to be like this and is just making things worse.

I remember an article from the late 80s about Jesse Johnson and the headline read:"Prince is an asshole!".

I mean, they´ve had their issues back then but is it really necessary to be like that in 2019 ?

It was nice to see him on tour and on stage with D´Angelo. Jesse should focus on the here and now and let go of the past. I don´t really care if he shed a tear at the end of the show. Prince is dead and dude still feels the need to talk about the tension they had back then.

That is true. We all rant and vent but I don't understand why he is upset. He had a better run than some people who never had half the chance he has had. Was he drinking again at celebration this year when he was saying similar things like this tape. He feels Prince did him wrong. He claiming Prince blackballed him and took money from his children but he is on Prince's platform getting paid. He still on this 1980's bull. I not saying he can't say how he feels about Prince but how you going to get a check based on him knowing and working with Prince but want to paint him like a bad guy. At the end of the day people are going to believe what they want no matter what.

He could try not being a hypocrit first of all since the comments on that recording indicate he really despises Prince. That kind of behavior is also called being two-faced. And he could also talk about his shit somewhere else, like a therapist's office. NOT in Prince's house during an event specifically held to honor Prince. Tacky and messy.

If Jesse would have smiled and played and not said anyhting at PP he would have still gotten the same criticism here.

No, he doesn't have balls. Saying the things while P was alive, would've been ballsy, going to PP when P reached out and then tell his "brother" what his problem is, would've been ballsy. What he did is not and never will be ballsy. He comes off as this whiny, greedy lil b***h he apparently is. I’d buy it. He doesn’t have to justify how he feels to me. We don’t tell someone their feelings are wrong, we try and understand them. And for all we know Kirk was getting a lot of NO THANKS from other talent he tried to book. I understand how some are offended by what Jesse said but we don’t any of us know the entire story.

Well that's a miracle in itself, isn't it, since he hasn't stfu about it for what...30 yrs now? And I'd say that since this recording came out again after having disappeared that there are some people he's really pissed off about this whole thing aside from P's fans. He's entitled to feel the way he feels but he's not entitled to drop that shit on Prince fans. And PP was WRONG to ask and allow him to appear at the celebration event. Exactly. I'm just as mad at the fans who sat there and did nothing while he was on his rant at P's house.
