So Jesse used his time at Celebration to bag on Prince.

https://www.twincities.co...sley-park/

“A lot of things he did … hurt me to my soul,” said Johnson, the original guitarist of the Time, during an onstage interview that quickly turned into a long, rambling monologue. “Would I have come here if he was alive? Probably not.”

“I need to rest my soul,” Johnson said at one point, choking back a tear. “I loved him. He was my brother.”

I’m sorry but Jesse using Celebration attendees as his therapist is not cool. I don’t care if he shed a tear at the end. This event is supposed to be a celebration of Prince, not the “Minneapolis Sound” and certainly not a Jesse Johnson therapy session. He should have declined to come or better yet never been offered a slot.

His time at P's house is now over. Go home Jesse.

snippet...

Celebration 2019 opened on a surprisingly bittersweet note Thursday when guitarist/songwriter Jesse Johnson used his time on stage to discuss his long-standing beef with Prince.

“A lot of things he did … hurt me to my soul,” said Johnson, the original guitarist of the Time, during an onstage interview that quickly turned into a long, rambling monologue. “Would I have come here if he was alive? Probably not.”

snippet...

Johnson told the crowd he had no idea who Prince was when they met, but they formed a close, if stormy, relationship. He grumbled about Prince’s insistence he take ballet lessons alongside acting classes for his role in “Purple Rain,” spoke about the Time opening for Prince on his “Controversy” tour in 1981 and heavily suggested Prince never paid him what he deserved. Johnson also revealed he hadn’t set foot in Paisley Park since he wrapped filming of the “Purple Rain” sequel “Graffiti Bridge” in 1990.

snippet....

He later let the audience handle the bulk of the vocals in his cover of Prince’s “I Feel for You,” claiming he didn’t know the lyrics. eek

No problem. I can’t believe people out there are defending Jesse. Of course he has the right to feel however he wants and say what he wants but not in Prince’s house during an event celebrating Prince. I don’t care if he was being real or not that wasn’t the time nor place to air his grievances.

I agree. It's shameful, he shouldn't have been there to begin with.

Apparently Jesse said this: “Prince, Morris, and I were as tight as any homosexual men could be”.

WTF does that mean?

I don't get it, if he doesn't have love and respect for the man, why even show up at PP? It is Prince's house, with his fans, this is not Jesse's audience, it's still Prince's. The people still come for Prince, if you don't love Prince, fine, but don't go to his house and disrespect the man who made you.

OK so I saw elsewhere the quote as "Prince, Morris and I loved each other as much as any straight guys could." That makes more sense to me.

Another gem from Jesse:

“He would have been an amazing father. Competitive,” said Johnson, who then lowered his voice and did an impression of Prince. “ ‘You hit the ball that far. OK, move.’ ”

What a shithead . Shame on Prince's family for letting Jesse come to the celebration.

I can't believe he said all of this at the Celebration of Prince, and nobody that was there said anything back to him and just let him ramble.

It’s just my guess but smaller turn outs every year, loss of good feelings, expensive as all get out, on line hate-venting, bad vibes. Prince was about love so hearing and feeling the hate surrounding this “celebration” makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere that only masochists will pay to see.

Not to mention all the talent having to wonder and worry about any skeletons in their own closets. We all hate the boss at one time or another.

I finally listened to it. I'm not going to the Celebration so I don't have to really worry about it. I am a Prince stan plain and simple. I get all the other stuff Jesse is saying and if he's living what he's saying I'm cool but if not then he's just as fake as a whole lotta others nothing special.

As i was telling someone who is there for the celebration, I appreciate his opinion and his stories on what "HE" felt Prince was doing to him, and I get it all, some are angry with him for dieing because they wanted closure and never got it so they figure this is a way. My problem is not even that he goes to PP after swearing he would never do it, so first and foremost you are a hypocrite, if you have all this bad blood why go? I get it for your own closure but people paid money to see this not for your therapy session, save it for a book or an interview or blog or whatever. JJ may feel he never became a big star because of PRINCE holding him back, tkaing from him, but to be honest for all these people especially the ones from that era who are quite frankly the only ones bitching about petty stuff at this point, i mean does Morris Hayes talk this nonsense? We get it Prince was a tough boss demanding etc... if you dont like it, there is the door, I mean Paul Peterson can tell you how easily he can replace you if you want out, so it may seem cold but at that time PRINCE was that way, later in life he may have become more of a person who could understand things more, but that is mainly because he was not PRINCE of those days, it was his hey day, he was a monster in that time period, but that also made all these people. No Prince and are we ever gonna know anyone on that stage? So quite frankly when PRINCE died i really try to ignore the nonsense, true or not, Prince is not here so this is your opinion, so i Ignore the Jesse's and Jill Jones and others when they start firing off at others, you had all those years to do that, hes dead move on.

Yeah well, maybe they can go visit Jesse at his house. It's ridiculous to pay $500-$1000 per ticket to hear his garbage.

He did a similar tirade at a club a couple of years ago, even scolding the audience for being noisy or talking, cuz he had "some important shit to say", adding, "I don’t have the same kind of love and shit y’all do".

He'll forever be the troubled child and tortured soul of The Time. It's like he sits at home and just mulls and wallows in his own shit. He doesn't make music, we rarely hear of him at a club playing with more than a Macbook and his guitar, and when we do he's just bitching and griping. That's not to dismiss that he has grievances with Prince. He has history. But goddamn man - move past it. Get therapy. Do something to make your life better and rise above it.

He said, “Would I have come here if he was alive? Probably not."

Well, the door's over there, Mr. Johnson. Same place you left it when you sauntered in with your laundry list of cry-me-a-river bullshit.
