Thanks for sharing. I think they described the dynamic very well. Love hearing their viewpoints on that time period. |

I watched "Purple Rain" last night and every single reference to the girls by anyone - including Prince - was "Lisa and Wendy".
But I and everyone else refer to them as "Wendy and Lisa". And as far as I can remember, they've always been referred to that way.
Try as I might, I cannot remember what made them go from "Lisa and Wendy" to "Wendy and Lisa". Was it the Rolling Stone cover (which wasn't until April 1996)? A TV appearance? Not that it matters much but it's one of those little things that nags at my brain.

For Prince calling them 'Lisa & Wendy' must've felt natural as he's known Lisa far longer. . And I assume they've switched to 'W&L' because Lisa is one of the kindest people on earth and was happy to let her name come second.

Could be.
I remember this story from that interview. They were still Lisa and Wendy, LOL:
Lisa says she doesn’t mind that “Lisa and Wendy” are a single entity in the rock public’s eye. She laughs shyly – her most frequent kind of laugh – as she remembers a solo shopping trip she took this week. “I was at the market,” she says, “and these two little girls, all decked out, walk by. They went past me, turned around, and yelled, ‘It’s Lisa and Wendy! It’s Lisa and Wendy!’ I had to stop and count how many of myself there were. Let’s see. One.”

They changed it when they started out on their own in 1987. Could be that they felt "Wendy & Lisa" had a better ring to it?? Also, Wendy was more of the "front girl" during their time as a duo in the late 80's.

A great question to ask them though!! |
