Remember DaniLeigh? She directed the Breakfast Can Wait music video.
And she's also really on the cutting edge of the whole pop/rap thing and Ariana Grande's latest album is pretty heavily influenced by her. I don't know if she'll get popular and blow up, but she's definetly an innovator.
She's also put on quite the "blaccent", so to speak, here's a more recent interview with her. Talk about changing your image to make it big.

Blaccent?
First, learn your history. She's Dominican from Miami and New York. Please learn the story of the diaspora throughout the Carribean BEFORE it hit mainland US.
Secondly, She didn't "change her image".
The Curly Fryz were a kids group. She's an adult now.
Whatever you're seeing right now is exactly how DaniLeigh is in person. It's not an image that she changed, and though it may not be your cup of tea, she is who she is and has been doing music like this since she started on her solo work. Before Prince passed away.
She also co-wrote J.Lo's hit "Dinero". To be fair, she's not REALLY on the cutting edge of anything, she's just a pretty woman of color doing what a LOT of Soundcloud rappers/singers have been doing for a while but her image gets her further than AutoTune and choreography has.

She sounds completely different than how she did in 2014 and when she worked with Prince. Totally different. Prince changed the way he talked (like in the Dick Clark interview), but his voice was his voice. He didn't suddenly come out in the 90s and sound like Snoop Dogg or whatever.
I think she's on the cutting edge as a woman. Ariana Grande's rap-trap-pop crossover is incredibly similar to what Dani has been doing for a couple years now.

I can’t stand the way she sounds when she talks. Her forced ebonics and all.It sounds artificial and trying way too hard |

It's not forced. It's not "ebonics" (which is a white person's way to separate venacular from a specific race, when language as a whole can change per regional dialect).
Take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/w...EterUAZRY. At 0:25 when she says "somethin' sexual". she slips into her everyday talk. It's how she talks around her friends, just as there are different ways you would talk around your friends as opposed to your boss, which Prince was to Dani while she was promoting that video. I have friends in the industry who have worked with her, and I can tell you that's EXACTLY who she is when she is around people she's comfortable with. Her demeanor and venacular will change for whatever situation she's in (as per everyone else), and to me she sounds like any other young Latina, specifically if her parents were from New York and she grew up in Miami Her brother is the same way.
If you compre that to, say, her sister Bri in this video from 2016: https://www.youtube.com/w...xTpnfKx0g, you'd see more of how Bri is just 2 years shy of how old Dani was when she directed BCW. |

I thought Dani seemed like a really sweet girl when we were first introduced to her with Breakfast Can Wait. Prince really took her and her sisters under his wing and I remember that he had them performing at the PPAD events in late 2013. I recall that Brianna sang 'At Last' at one and Prince streamed it on 3rd Eye TV. She was only around 10 or 11 then I believe and I thought she had a great voice. I like 'Like A Mack' with Dani and her sister Charlie too, I think it's cute and fun. Prince was showing his support for DaniLeigh's music on twitter in 2015, though I didn't know it was her since I was unaware she was no longer going by Danielle Curielle. |

I'm pretty sure she's always released music as Danileigh. But yeah, it's always nice to hear about how Prince was helping the next generation out. Kinda cements his legacy even more.

Yes I thought that was really generous of him. I knew her as Danielle Curielle so when he posted the clip of her video with the name Danileigh it didn't register right away that it was her. She had also changed her look since I had last seen her but I realized it was her when I looked closer. I saw that he had shared a video of Brianna's as well in 2014 or 15. |
