^^^ I guess the "Purple" house then, since the Galpin house hadn't been built yet. I know the decor was considered high end then, but man it looks so "80's" now!!! I remember all of those pastel colors and stripe designs on carpets and walls

That scene was the beginning of the Screams Of Passion video too...before they cut to the band on the ocean - aka "vulva splash"

Yes! That's where I remembered it from.

looks like a different time. Look at the stand vase next to the bed and at the head of the bed her hair is redder in the video too

Maybe he was trying to recreate the scene in the photo for the video.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, or he could have moved the larger vase out of the way for the video. Although, I seem to remember Susannah stating in an interview somewhere that he was not there for the video shoot. I would be surprised by that though.

True. Oh ok. I would find that surprising too.

The FLORIDA connection
Mico Weaver: Yeah, actually we did the Purple Rain Tour. It was like 100 shows in the States. The last show was in Florida so everybody was chillin'. Now the tour was over, 'what are we gonna do right after this?' So he called me and said 'Hey come up to my room, and he showed me "Around The World In A Day", the cover and all that stuff. He said 'this is the new thing'. I thought 'this is cool' -- it showed his own label and then he told me 'I want you to play in The Family'.

"The Screams of Passion" music video is hard for me to remember... I was so young and I was inexperienced with that kind of thing. We had been in rehearsals for such a long time to go on the road. We were rehearsing for a year before we went and did our first gig. I remember not having any expectations. Prince let us do a lot, too. There's a lot of people who think, that we, as The Family, didn't have any influence. But, that's not the case. He was there for part of the video, but, he wasn't really there (all the time). He wasn't the little guy dictator in the background saying “No, they can't do this or this is how it should be.” It wasn't like that. We had done pre-production for such a long time. We had fun, but, I wouldn't say that we were in heaven about it. It just wasn't like that. My memory of it was just working really hard. That's what I remember about it.

Ah yes, that's where I remember reading her talking about the video - the 2013 interview. It makes sense that he brought in Miko for The Family, as he was part of Sheila's band opening on the PR tour, right? Then Sheila joined Lionel Ritchie for his tour in '86. And Susannah's Brother Jonathon played keyboards at the 1st Ave show too.

Yes, and if you add her intellect, humor, and musical backround plus the bond with Wendy & Lisa it's completely understandable why he wanted to be with her.

Yes she was really the total package. I can understand why he wanted her to be his wife.

Those are some beautful photographs from a wonderful era in Prince´s career. By the way, is anybody here on this thread who went to that last Purple Rain show in Miami? I´m asking because it´s been mentioned a couple of times that Prince and Sheila both got their hair dyed blond before that show and it didn´t really work out for Prince so he had to get a short haircut. Now, I simply can´t imagine a Purple Rain concert with a blond Prince, or Prince having supershort hair during a Purple Rain show just like in that 4 The Tears In Your Eyes video. But we´ve talked about this topic on the org before and I read something about Sheila and him being at some sort of afterparty with blond hair. Does anybody know or has anybody asked Susannah about this? Or did Prince wear a wig for that last show? Which I can´t imagine because that would be superuncomfortable during such a physically demanding show. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I´ve also never seen any pictures of Prince from that last Purple Rain show. Are there any? And if so, could somebody please post one? OF4S maybe? KoolEaze said: I´ve also never seen any pictures of Prince from that last Purple Rain show. Are there any? And if so, could somebody please post one? OF4S maybe? This was a thread topic awhile back (what did Prince look like when the ATWIAD album was released) and I posted a black and white pic of him from the 4 The Tears In Your Eyes video. He's got the shorter hair but not blonde of course. Sheila's hair was cut short and blonde during the PR tour. There are pics of her on stage with the lighter hair. * I'm thinking now that the man in the cloud suit on the ATWIAD cover was meant to be Prince with blonde hair and not someone else. Earl Jones talked about the hair dye fiasco. He said Prince's hair started falling out which is why they had to cut it so short. He said the hairstyle in the Rasberry Beret video was all he could do with it after the bad reaction to the dye. I'm guessing the dye job and the switch back to dark hair happened at the sane styling session or very close time frame. May not be any pictures.

Yes,I thought the man in the cloud suit was supposed to be Prince, though I did wonder why his hair was blonde not knowing at the time the backstory. I believe that someone said in the ATWIAD thread that it was rumored that the bleach had also turned his hair orange and that was why no pics exist. I wondered if that may have been the reason for the scarf and hat for the 'America' video.

Oh yeah I remember that thread and discussion, hence why I mentioned it in my post above, and I know about the things you´ve posted regarding Earl Jones and Prince´s hair falling out and then the short hair in the 4 the Tears in Your Eyes video. But....do you know what his hair looked like during that very last show of the Purple Rain tour in Miami? Because I´ve never, ever, seen a pic of Prince from that show....only from earlier shows or from the ATWIAD era, Raspberry Beret video, 4 the Tears video etc . etc. but I can´t imagine him doing a Purple Rain concert without the typical Purple Rain hairdo. Then again, from what we know, that hair dye job happened right before that last show, right? So I´m just wondering what he looked like during that very show. Short hair? Blond ? Both? Because , as you may remember, people said Sheila and Prince both had blond hair at the afterparty. But I´ve never seen pictures from that show or from that night in general. Only the "aftermath" look, which can be seen in the 4 The Tears In Your Eyes video. I can´t imagine him playing a full concert with all the acrobatic aspects wearing a wig, or having blond hair. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

His hair was pretty light during the NPS era and in the Vibe interview with Sinbad. I thought it suited him.

I guess by then they figured out a way to lighten it without making it fall out Although, itcseebs he was trying to go full blonde back in '85. I don't think hair coloring products were very good back then - probably straight bleach

Yes,Kim Berry talked about how he was constantly wanting to try new highlights and colors back then. I wonder what made him want to bleach it in '85? I noticed he mentions blond hair in the song 'Coco Boys.'

It is more than likely that Prince still had his PR hairdo for the last concert. Per Princevault, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes was recorded in a mobile truck February 2nd 1985: * "Basic tracking for 4 The Tears In Your Eyes took place on 2 February 1985 using a mobile recording studio outside the Superdome, New Orleans, LA, USA, the day after performing there (1 February 1985) on the Purple Rain Tour." * However, the video they shot for the song was done "sometime in April" per Princevault. So, most likely that was shot after the last show in Miami, and just after his hair was dyed back to black and cut shorter. * "The video version was recorded in April 1985 (exact date unknown) at SIR Los Angeles, Hollywood, California, and premiered on 13 July 1985 during the world-wide Live Aid event." * My guess it that his attempt at blonde hair happened between April 7th and April 30th 1985. I agree it would be great to get confirmation of that, and even BETTER if Susannah or someone else actually has a photograph of him with the blonde hair!!!! Maybe Doug the artist has one.
