Bria Valente, Tamar or Judith Hill... Who had the better album?

I'm considering tracking down Tamar's and Judith 's debut, as I've only heard Bria's. Should I bother? I can't say I was overly impressed with Elixer... Is Tamar's or Judith's any better?

Nah, why bother listening to them when you can start a thread about them on prince.org instead...

This is not supposed to be here but it did remind me. What the heck happened to what Tamar is supposed to be putting together? Aint heard from her since.

YES, you should bother!

Judith Hill's album is GREAT. So is Tamar's. In fact, even Tamar's non-Prince albums are excellent.

Give them all a spin, I think you'll like them.

She's doing mainly acting and singing in plays. She's doing well, too. But I don't know that any musical releases are planned. She's a great singer with awesome talent but that's not in high demand in the pop/R&B marketplace right now, unfortunately.

Judiths for sure. "Turn Up" is stone cold classic.

I enjoy both but I listen to Judith's more. I recall Tamar saying in her interview with Uncovering Prince that she was planning to release Milk & Honey along with her book but haven't heard anymore about it.

Why would you, someone who is very opinionated (I don't mean that negatively), depend on other people's thoughts on a Prince-produced record? One would think any Prince fan would listen and make their own judgments. You'll never get a solid opinion on any of those records that will trump your own.

Are we at least in agreeance that Bria was a bit lackluster? There were some nice moments on Elixer, but I don't think Bria particularly shone as an artist in her own right.

I don't know,I liked the majority of her album. I don't think she ever really intended to be an artist. After it was released, she said in some interviews that she was surprised that Prince packaged the album with his and talked like they had recorded the songs for fun and she didn't expect them to come out on an album.

"Immersion" is pretty magical and permanently in my rotation.

Yes,that was the highlight for me on first listen, along with "Everytime" I love Clare Fischer's arrangement as well. I think her album was well done. The only song I didn't really care for was "2 Nite"

I loved Judith Hill's Back in Time. I thought the Bria Valente album was a snore. I haven't heard Tamar's album.

Bria's album was crap. Let's be honest. Tamar's album is a decent version of Bria's album in that it is kind of similar but just done better. Judith Hill's album is quite different to the other two and much better. It's not my cup of tea either but it is the best of the three.

We can only really give you our opinions. You won't know how you feel about it until you've heard them. Fortunately, they aren't hard to find. So before making any purchases you might regret, seek them out through other means and if you like what you hear, by all means buy them.

Good luck buying the Támar album. It was never commercially released anywhere and the rare copy that does surface for sale commands a hefty price.

OK, Mr Pedantic. Buy the other two. Illegally download the Tamar album. Or download all 3 of them.

Immersion is dope yes. 2 Nite, meh. The rest is fairly decent, imo. I don't think she's any less capable a singer than anybody, but shrug. I've never really listened 2 Tamar's as a complete album, just bits I've pulled from here or there n liked what I'd heard relatively. Judith's I've listened 2 the most I'd say, really cool twocents.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

While I don’t think any of these albums or singers are A+ material I do like all of their voices very much and all of their albums. Especially Bria’s since Prince was so much closer to that record.

Judith Hill overall i think is the strongest he worked with in a really long time. Those he worked with were really strong in his later years, 3rd Eye Girl, Shelby J, Liv, Judith and Andy, very strong artists Judith and Andy I wouldnt call his proteges, especially Judith since she worked with MJ and also Stevie Wonder and Dave Stewart prior to PRINCE seeing her on the Voice.

I agree. I think Kandace Springs is another very strong artist that he promoted. I'm not sure it was confirmed that they actually recorded music together but I recall her saying that he loved her song "Novacaine Heart" Natalya is also very talented and it was said that he was in the process of recording an album with her.
