Right Pink. I think it's absolutely ludicrous to say that Prince did not write songs with specific people in mind, especially women he loved. His music had NOTHING to do with being a businessman. He lived and breathed his music, literally - and he was inspired by people and events around him. That is what artists do - they take inspiration from those around them. Were some of his songs about general topics? Of course. However, many songs were connected to specific people, places, etc. Big Tall Wall was 100% about Susannah moving into the round stone apt building in MN "I'm gonna build a big tall wall, stone circle so you can't get out..."

*

@muchtoofast:

So, when Prince was asked by a fan during his online chat in 1997 who the subject of Forever In My Life was, and he said, "susannah. she knows"....I guess he was lying then?? When he was asked by a fan during NPGMC pre-show at his Ohio concert who inspired Adore, and he responded, "Susannah"....I guess he was also lying then too??

*

It's just completely ludicrous to say that Prince never wrote songs for or about specific people. Just completely absurd.

Gosh I didn’t say that. I think he may have had a deep love for someone but you’d need a pick axe to get to his heart. I haven’t seen the Ohio interview. Also notice how easy the word “wife” would have fit into FIML, but was never said.

Oh, sorry! thought you were implying that when you said this:

*

"I think he pulled ideas from every relationship and wrote a song that could be aimed at any woman which made it universal and therefore a successful seller"

*

My take is that he wrote songs directly inspired by people or events in his life at that time, however, many of them could apply to anyone's life or experience. Take Adore for instance - that song, while it was clearly inpsired by a specific person in Prince's life at the time he wrote it, many can relate to the words and meaning of the song. Many have used it, and also FIML as their wedding song. So, while the song was very personal to Prince, it is relatable to many others too.

Really??? A playboy playmate with whom he had a six month fling in 1984-85?? THAT'S your go-to for the real story on Prince??

Just for me, I wasn't suggesting it in the way of ranking in a particular way re: real story on Prince. I recommend it for getting her stories. I like to read a lot of interviews from a lot of different people.

I really enjoy hearing from Susannah, and I've read and listened to all I can find from her perspective.

Thanks. I was following her for a while on Periscope before Prince passed and I thought she seemed very nice and down to earth. She would go live while making dinner usually and kind of do a cooking segment of sorts. She seemed really cool and friendly. I recall that she got a Yorkie puppy and named it Mr. Prince. smile

Prince got a hard-on for Devon when he saw her first Playboy spread during the PR tour in December 1984. His people contacted her, and he started flying her out to some of the shows to screw around with him after the concerts. She was a complete stranger to him. It was a sex thing. I'm sure she was one of several PB centerfolds that he screwed during that time. This is not a shocker. Very common in the "rock star" world, and Prince was soaking up every bit of it. Many men can separate sex from love, and I'm sure Prince was able to as well.

*
Meantime, he was also writing songs like Nothing Compares 2 U and Condition Of The Heart when Susannah broke it off during that period of time.

Uh...you've got the relationship with him and Devon all wrong.......

Where do you come up with this stuff at?

Oh, okay. So, if we go by the songs...because again, we all know this is how Prince expressed his feelings.... she states that he wrote Bedtime Story, is it?? Wow, those are some intense and heartfelt lyrics right there. I really can't understand why Prince didn't replace FIML with that one on the SOTT album?? lol

Sorry to sound like a broken record with this, but I think he often couldn't.

The situation was such that he should have known some of his lovers would have sex outside the relationship with him. That was obvious given how he tried to run the show. He expressed a lot of anger and hurt about this, and this was reflected in some of his songs.

The same could be said about you....were you personally there?

What week? Prince put her on the next plane home and made Alan Leeds go with her. lol Evidently it wasn't Susannah that was with him for that 'engagement' week.

From what I understand, it was when they arrived in Nice that she left to go back to MN - not Paris. However, she had to have come back at some point, because the Girls & Boys video was filmed in Nice, and she is showcased in that video.

*

Yeah, I'm going to tend to take the word of the person that actually knew and had a personal relationship with Prince, and who was actually physically there with Prince over a guy who didn't know him at all. I think that's a safe bet.

From what you understand from who? Were you there?

And you do understand that just because these women were in his life and they do interviews, that you can't always believe them either...right? Too many people have conflicting stories that don't jive with Susannah's.

Prince got "yanked" around by women?? Prince was probably one of the biggest "players" of women, especially during the 80's. Prince did exactly what he wanted to do whenever he wanted to do it.

*

Did you listen to the interview at all? Susannah stated mutliple times - the relationship was done HIS WAY only - no discussions. She stated arguments were one-sided, because there was no listening to her feelings about the relationship. Prince's Manager, Alan Leeds, told Susannah that Prince wanted her in NY with him. Susannah went because he requested her to be there.

*

I seriously doubt, at 21 yrs old, that Susannah was pressuring Prince in any way about marriage. Again, Prince did what he wanted to do at any given time.

*

Prince and his alleged flings were always in the tabloids during that time. He even referenced those tabloids in the Sheila E video for Sister Fate. That was actually good press and exposure for him back then.

*

The fact that Prince, feeling so upset about his argument or separation from Susannah, felt compelled to have the band record his song about it on Bobby Z's wedding day- well, I think that about sums it all up right there.

Were you there? What makes you think that he was so upset about his argument or seperation from Susannah? And that wasn't very respectful of Prince to pull them all in on Bobby's wedding day, now was it?

Nope, I was not there. However, THE ENTIRE CAMP was there, and they have ALL confirmed this story. For God's sake, it's written on princevault.com - give it up PennyP!!!

*

Yep, one thing we actually do agree on, which is that it was not respectful at all of Prince to pull them in to record on Bobby's wedding day. So, one can easily conclude that Prince must have been quite distraught about the thought of Susannah leaving him, and was compelled to express his feelings about it with that amazingly heart-wrenching song.

No one is denying the fact that, at some point, Susannah went back to MN. However, I seriously doubt that she is going to fabricate a story about staying with him in Paris. It has also been confirmed that she was with staying with Prince and Jerome at the rental house in St Vincent Du Paul. So, regardless of her leaving for a period of time, it is clear that she was there for the majority of the trip.

Oh, I think you misunderstood me there. No doubt there was a huge double-standard with Prince regarding his women having other lovers. That was not acceptable to him at all. However, that rule did not apply to HIM. I was saying that I think Prince could separate his own feelings for various women with regard to those whom he loved and those who were strictly sexual flings.

10 bucks could shut your mouth about Devon, you’d maybe learn something?? I’m trying to be friendly here, you will come away with a different attitude about her, I guarantee it.

I saw a video of her promoting her book on some local morning talk show....with her "Mr. Prince" dog in tow razz . While she seems to be a sweet woman, she also struck me as probably not the "sharpest tool in the shed". Sorry, that is just the impression I got based on her responses to the questions. My impression was, "yep, former Playboy playmate writes book about her fling with Prince in the mid 80's"....

I have read a print interview and watched one of her video interviews. I get the jist. I am certainly not "dumb" because I decide not to spend $$ on her book. I tell ya what, if it comes to my local library, or if I can get a free download, then I'll read it. I have no doubt that Prince was attracted to her, and no doubt that they had a ton of sex. However, regardless of how she sees it, I don't think she will go down as one of the more serious loves for Prince.

She would often do one in the morning after first waking up and Mr Prince was always with her. She would also do segments for Wisdom Wednesday where she would talk about life experiences and give advice to her followers. Periscope episodes at that time would expire within 24 hours after filming but they changed that in 2017,I believe and they were able to be archived so there may be a few still there if she still has the account. I actually followed Mr Prince on IG after she opened his account lol. He's a cutie. I'm listening to the interview you shared now and I'm really enjoying it.
