MakeUP a 1985 Jill Jones album/era

I'll pretend I'm in a movie...

tumblr_m3wv33ubAo1qgy0kmo1_250.gif

A Daisy Mae-type
whose emotions form so quickly, she has
trouble sorting them out...

what could a 1985 release looked like? tour? or just shows? who is the in the band? should she have a band name? The Pink Fox band? album art, singles, bsides? videos? style...
Bring out your academic creative yet realistic for the 1985 times in Prince's camp ideas...

As a Brunette or a Blonde?

I'm going with blonde still, since it seems to fit some song outtakes

Keep it connected with 1982-Lady Cab Driver and 1984 JJ

I think "Sugar Walls" would have been an excellent debut single for Jill in 1985 smile perhaps Prince should have given it to her?

Do you think it would have had the same success?
I mean for me whether it was Sheena or Jill I'm just glad it was released despite any popularity

I think it would have done well.Jill could have rode the Purple Rain hype train, just like Sheila E. and the others. And as a vocalist, she's just as good as Sheena.

Jill(whom I met at a New Year's Eve ULTRA private party) I was just listening to the other day & noticed how prominent her vocals was on Prince's MASSIVE hit "1999". She was working those "Partay" vocals to the end. I LOVE HER blunt,no nonsense, no filter, attitude. She really has a LONG history with Prince that no one else has.

"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when eye was doing the Purple Rain tour eye had a lot of people who eye knew eye'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."prince

Lisa's vocals were more prominent on 1999 than Jill's. It's Lisa who has the solo lines and it is her who does the love making sighs towards the end of the song.

LIES!

Toward the end U can clearly hear Jill's vocals. Although Lisa(whose vocals I was fond of also) is sharing lead vocals in the beginning, Jill is double layering also to give it the full effect. I don't know what love making sighs your hearing!? Maybe it's something U would like to hear from someone?

Although I adore Lisa who happens to be my favorite Revolution member.

This thread is about JILL!

I was referring 2 Little Red Corvette regarding Lisa's sex sighs, my error. On the 1999 album Jill's full name is never written in the liner notes. It just has JJ, which could also imply Jellybean Johnson from The Time. If I were Jill, I would want my full name in the credits, just 2 make it clear. But on the 1999 song Lisa is the clear female lead.

I love Jill too, but a lot of people have long(er) histories with Prince. Jill and Prince ceased being friends after 1990 whereas Morris Day Sheila E Bobby Z Lisa Wendy Alan Leeds Eric Susannah BrownMark Andre etc remained friends his whole life.

Yes she was putting the party into 1999 lol energy. The play on JJ on the credits is an interesting story told by Jesse Johnson too.

But back to the 'makeUp JJ era

what year should the first Jill Jones album have been released?

Jill's album should have been released in late 1984 or early 1985.That was a time when nearly everything Prince produced got alot of attention and airplay.Jill should have been able to take advantage of the Purple Rain hype, just like the others did.Her career would have got off to an amazing start.

Maybe it should have. But it wasn't meant to be. Sheila E. was picked by divine intervention to be the star in 1984/85. Shoulda woulda coulda. The Time "shoulda" been on the Purple Rain tour also. But they broke up. Wasn't meant to be. Shoulda woulda coulda...I can go on & on & on. But only certain peeps are picked through devine intervention. It's not in anyones hands.

I would want to hear Jill leading on more rock driven songs. Killing At the Soda Shop I actually love. G-Spot has the rock punch too, but something heavier.

And it seems that Jill Jones did guide vocals/BG vox on almost all of Prince's female-lead demos then. Another reason Sheila's album was finished so fast.

I love this thread. I think the released version of G-Spot sounds so flimsy, and definitely POST-UTCM. Could have been more rock. I think the demo goes way harder.

I think most orgers would agree that Jill's album should have been released in 1985 not 1987.We can only hope that the Paisley Park estate will someday soon give Jill's album the re-issue it deserves. Digitally re-mastered and including extra tracks Wednesday (song cut from Purple Rain) and 77 Bleeker Street (the excellent b-side to Mia Bocca)

I think early to mid-1985 would be perfect. Some songs that I would use...

*"Sugar Walls"---the way I see it,Sheena Easton was already having hit singles.Prince needed to take care of his own artists first biggrin this would have been the perfect debut single for Jill.

*"Miss Understood"---this is a Family outtake that Susannah wasn't too fond of.I like it and I think it would have been perfect for Jill.

*G-Spot"----but with the same music used on Prince's 1983 version.

*"Baby,You're A Trip"

*"Wednesday"

Miss Understood is an unreleased song by The Family recorded on 10 August 1984, at Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and was intended for The Family album. Susannah Melvoin, who sang lead vocals on the track, didn't like the track, which was a cheery pop song unlike other tracks by The Family, and argued with Prince to not include it on the album. According to engineer Susan Rogers, Prince defended the track and even threatened to find someone else to sing in the band instead of Susannah Melvoin, but ultimately the track was not included on the album as it was released. Yes. There are like Purple Rain era songs that could have been a first JJ album PR-ATWIAD era bridge.

1 Sugar Walls

2 G-Spot

3 Wednesday

4 Manic Monday(Prince/Jill duet)

5 Baby Ur a Trip

6 Our Destiny (it would be cool if 3 versions were released -leads- 1. Prince 2. Lisa Coleman 3. Jill Jones

7 Miss Understood

she definately would have been able to play that role, because it seems like the character she had in Purple Rain.

I agree! I came back to say all of these songs AND MOST OF SHEILA'S ALBUM! I also think "Roadhouse Garden" would have worked for her.
