"Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus" features tales by (among others) Morris Day & The Time (PART TWO)

Seems the previous thread got autolocked.

.

Prince did a lot of cruel things, thank goodness for all the post-death stories that came out to balance out that bullshit.

.

Ah yes, Prince giving a couple thousand dollars to a charity balances out him mistreating people for years. Also ignores that he most likely spent more on a single trip to the Versace store than on most of the charitbale causes.

.

Prince never spoke ill of people publicly. Whatever he did good or bad, it stayed private.

.

Bwahahahahahaha. Yeah sure, whatever.

.

She still performs. Wonder why she didn't interview for this?

.

Betty Davis? I think you're mistaken. You need to watch the recent documentary about her, it explains a lot of why she vanished into obscurity.

.

Jam & Lewis starting producing acts like kinda sounded The Time.

.

Oh please. The SOS Band sounds nothing like The Time. Don't pretend like they weren't one of the most successful music producers ever.

Jam and Lewis definately used Prince’s version of the Minneapolis Sound in a lot of their productions. Have you heard their work with Janet? They have spoken at great length about his massive influence on their work. One of the reasons P forbade band members to produce outside his orbit was to reduce the ubiquity of his sound on the airwaves.

Example #5 million that Bart has a tin ear.

‘I didn’t just fade off the planet.’ Reconnecting with ’70s funk queen Betty Davis
By Keith L. Alexander

September 11, 2018 at 5:13 PM

Betty Davis sits in her modest apartment, heating up a leftover vegetarian Indian meal ordered from a nearby restaurant a day earlier.

As she makes her way into the living room, there is a spiral notebook and a tape recorder next to her, both used, she says, to write and record her songs and tunes.

Nearly 40 years ago, millions of people knew Davis’s songs when she was a funk legend, known for her sexy persona and her marriage to Miles Davis. Since the late 1980s, Davis has lived a quiet, unassuming life outside Pittsburgh, where most people don’t recognize her when she shops at the local Giant Eagle supermarket.

In the past few months, however, interest in Davis and her whereabouts has surfaced thanks to an independent documentary on her life titled “Betty: They Say I’m Different.”

That's a great read, it answered some of my questions from her Tour Bus episode. I've been listening to her, and am an instant fan.

“I started writing music when I was 12 years old. I used to drive the neighbors crazy, because I would be singing from my mother’s kitchen all the time,” she says. “I would put music to lyrics that I wrote. It’s a gift.”

Me too! I do not play an instrument either.

cool I hadn't made the association with 'Nasty Gal' and 'Nasty Girl' though I had wondered if V's knee high boots and outfits were inspired by hers.

That makes sense. I recall Prince sharing Betty's song FUNK on his Twitter in 2014 so he was still really into her music.

I was hoping Betty or a cast member shared a Prince story on this show. No luck. I don't know if they ever met.

That would have been cool. I don't know either if they did but that would be interesting to find out.
