Patricia was very beautiful herself. Although she didn't come close to her sister Denise beauty who was just DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! Pat could have had just as a successful career as her sister. I wonder what happened? I also wonder why Eddie didn't date Denise? EVERY MAN that was in her presence was just puddy in her hands. She was irresistible. Which is why Prince wrote "Irresistible Bitch" about her.

I love that song. Not only was she beautiful but had a feminine charm that could work on just about any man. Totally disarming...it was almost the same kind of "little girl" sweetness that daddy's girls use...feminine wiles..

nod

Exactly!

It'll NEVER be another like her.

Sadly, she was objectified this way all the time - every video I've watched shows the male host tocuching, ogglilng, making sexual comments, etc. Even during her interviews with Joan Rivers, the focus was her looks, men she's been with, and sex. She was treated as a sex object, which I'm sure added to her frustration with the industry.

he treated her sister who was with eddie, saying she "washed up and went down to bail her out"

something along those lines. just awful. the maltreatment of open vessels like that, ugh awful!!!

Yes, I was never a fan of Arsenio at all. He often had no tact when interveiwing his guests. When Cindy Crawford was a guest on his show in the early 90's - after the Black Album was released with Prince's "Cindy C", or actually before it was officially released, because he asked her if she got a copy of it - which was said to be a dig at her because she turned down his advances at a club in the late 80's - Arsenio made a blatant crack about her mole - something to the effect of "I'm sure all the guys from your highschool are like, "oh man, and I thought that mole was ugly!" Wow, just wow. Even Cindy's reaction was one of disbelief, but she handled it well.

Arsenio is a COMEDIAN! They make jokes that hit below the belt ALL THE TIME! U just DON'T GET IT!

Plus really U don't want to get it. .Arsenio's talk show made him a VERY wealthy man. So wealthy he doesn't really have to work like his close friend Eddie for the REST of his life.

^^^ I found the video of Cindy C on Arsenio - it was 1990 so they didn't discuss the Black album - that must have been on a later talk show that she did, but he does do the bit about her mole, and also brings up her Playboy shoot asking her to give details about how they got the sand to stick to her breasts. Really?? What a stupid question. He couldn't have been that dumb, so obviously it was just a way of talking about her body and showing the picture. Same with his quesitons about the George Michael video - just pointless. I can think of so many interesting questions to ask about the making of that video rather than just commenting about how George got all of them to agree to do the video. Really?? George was huge by that point, so who wouldn't want to be involved in one of his projects?? It was a fantastic song and video.

choc, if you really go back and look at the interview, it seems each time he is going for below the belt.

below the belt is fine in a "stand up show" but not interview style.

below the belt one on one is only ok if wits are matched as it is a case of playing the dozens.

she was there as a "guest" she should have been treated like one.

Really??? I think you are confusing stand-up comedy with being a talk show host. Comedians hit "below the belt" all the time when on stage in front of a random audience. Talk show hosts, when speaking face-to-face with celebrity guests do not go "below the belt" at their guests - it is low class and tasteless - unless the guest is clearly engaging in the same banter with them. Celebrities appear on talk shows to promote their latest projects and get exposure. They do not expect sexist or inappropriate comments/actions to be directed at them.

*

Obviously with Vanity it was a bit more complicated, because her celebrity image was of a sexual nature, both with her music and acting roles, which is why she was subjected to more of the crude behavior on talk shows and interviews. Also, she was not a Juliard grad or an academic, so she was not going to have major philosphical or serious discussions - espeically in the 80's.

*

Arsenio doesn't have to work??? Then explain his recent attempted come-back as a talk show host. As for Eddie Murphy....I think he's going to be just fine whether he works again or not. From "Celebrity Net Worth" site:

*

"Eddie Murphy net worth and salary: Eddie Murphy is an American actor, comedian, producer, and director who has a net worth of $120 million. Eddie Murphy is one of the highest grossing actors in film history. As of this writing, his movies have grossed nearly $6.7 billion at the worldwide box office. "

Majority if not ALL talk show host are stand up comedians. That's how they keep their guest and audiences captivated.

U misunderstood me yet AGAIN! I was comparing Arsenio with his close friend Eddie(whom I attended his ultra private tribute a few years ago) with both not having to ever work again. Because they're both wealthy.

EVERY artist misses their craft no matter how much money is in their bank account. It's how we keep our creative juices flowing.

And you missed my point as welll regarding comedians becoming talk show hosts. When they are comedians doing stand up obviously they can be as vulgar and "below the belt" as they'd like to be, because they are not having a face-to-face conversation with anyone in particular. They are speaking on a stage in front of a large general audience with few or no celebrities in attendance. As talk show hosts, they are in a completely different setting - they are speaking face-to-face with their celecrity guests for whom they are supposed to help promote their latest project. They are not throwing out one-liners or vulgar jokes to the audience. Completely different setting altogether.

*

Artists missing their craft?? Sometimes. However, artists who make a lot of money also live the lifestyle of someone with a lot of money, ie: multiple properties, multiple high end cars, lavish trips, etc. They also pay a large annual tax bill. So, eventually, if the high rate of spending continues but the larger income does not....well, we've all seen what happens in that scenario.

Probably some of the reason for Arsenio's financial concerns:

*

2014

"Talk show host Arsenio Hall was lucky to emerge unharmed after crashing his Porsche in Los Angeles two days before Christmas

The 57-year-old late night talk show host lost control of his 2014 Porsche Cayenne while driving in the upscale West Hills neighbourhood and pictures, which have just emerged of the vehicle, show the full extent of the damage.

The front of the car was badly damaged and according to TMZ, could cost about $15,000 to repair."

*

Cayenne S models start at $82,900, and Cayenne Turbo models start at $124,600. Among luxury midsize SUVs, only the Tesla Model X carries a higher price tag for its top trim. Check out our U.S. News Best Price Program for great savings at your local Porsche dealer.Oct 17, 2018

Luxury cars require large income....especially with large repair bills...

It was GROUNDBREAKING late night TV. Arsenio had the young demographic that the other talk shows didn't have or couldn't get. Arsenio also discovered & broke MANY artist from the exposure from his successful show. It was the talk of the town. It will NEVER be anything like it again. It was a very special time to be in & I was ALL apart of it.

Arsenio also discovered & broke MANY artist from the exposure from his successful show. It was the talk of the town. It will NEVER be anything like it again. It was a very special time to be in & I was ALL apart of it.

Chocolate, sometimes I wonder if you making these statements, "tongue-in-cheek?" A little humor we are not getting?

Just wonderin...

Oh yes, it was SOOOO groundbreaking that it lasted all of FIVE years. Of course, no one had done a successful late night talk show prior to Arsenio lol Let me break it down for you:

*

Johnny Carson - 30 Years

David Letterman - 30+ Years

Jay Leno - 22 Years

Conan O'Brien - 14 Years on NBC and still running on TBS

Arsenio Hall - 5 Years on Fox; 1 Year on CBS 2013-2014

*

Please look at the facts and data before you post the rants. Arsenio was trendy for about a minute as compared to the late night greats of his time.

It was a nightly party/extravaganza! Arsenio was the man to watch & his energetic show was comparable to no one.

I think this piece from Wiki is an accurate description of the AH show:

*

The Arsenio Hall Show was aimed primarily at, although not limited to, the younger urban audience.[17] Eddie Murphy (a personal friend of Hall's), George Lopez[18] and other performers were often featured, such as semi-regular guests including Andrew "Dice" Clay and Paula Abdul. The show quickly appealed to young people of all races and began to attract a wide variety of guests not common on other talk shows[19] (although this popularity with audiences was short-lived and ultimately led to the show's cancellation). It became the show for entertainers to go to in order to reach the "MTV Generation".[20] The show was commonly dubbed a "Night Thing" and reflected a party or nightclub theme.

*

The show's demographic was too narrow to make it a sustainable program. The teen/twenty-something market has always been fickle, and often moves quickly from one thing to the next. I was late teens/early 20's when it aired, and I did watch it for awhile. Then I moved on, because it got old. Also, I think the competition (David L, Johnny/Jay) had also started booking the "hot" celebs and performers of the day which contributed to the downturn in ratings.

It was a good time! My mom really loved it when he had Luther Vandross on for the whole show. He was her favorite. smile

Those artist didn't have a platform back then to showcase their talent. Because they weren't booked on the major talk shows unless they had a crossover hit. Arsenio's show really opened doors for artist and entertaners that wouldn't normally be seen. His show also discovered MANY artist that later became HUGE. Like Mariah Carey,TLC etc. The list is ENDLESS! Of course the MAIN MAN PRINCE was given the show to himself to showcase his MEGA CHARISMATIC performances. I was right there to experience it live & UNCUT.

I will ALWAYS bowdown to Arsenio for what he achieved. He was an INNOVATOR. Not a HATER like most here that will remain nameless.
